Instagram adds new features to the app monthly, and the latest is the ability to leave comments on Stories. With this feature, your followers can comment on your stories, and these comments will be shown along with the stories in a separate comments section. The new section for comments looks like this:
Tapping the comment icon will open the comments, where you can leave comments. Comments on Stories will appear as shown below.
Instagram mentions that only the followers you follow back can comment on your stories. However, the comments section can be opened to all followers for stories from settings.
Comments on Instagram Stories are rolling out to all Instagram users. Mark Zuckerberg announced this feature via his Meta Channel with a playful comment: "Stories have entered the chat… literally."
How to Turn on Comments for All Followers on Instagram Stories
The option to turn on comments for all followers is buried deep in story settings, and here's how to turn it on:
- After posting a story on Instagram, tap on the three-dot More button.
- Tap Go to Story settings.
- Scroll down to Commenting and tap Allow comments.
- Change the default option from People you follow to Everyone.
Everyone will be able to comment on your stories now.
How to Turn off Comments on Instagram Stories
Instagram also gives the option to turn off comments on stories; here's how to do it:
- Tap the three-dot More button after posting a story.
- Tap Turn off commenting to turn off the comments for this story.
- To turn off commenting on all stories, tap Go to story settings.
- Under Commenting, tap Allow comments.
- Tap Off from this screen.
