WhatsApp will drop support for several iPhones older than 10 years in 2025. According to the popular WhatsApp tracking website, WABetaInfo, WhatsApp will stop working on some of the most popular iPhones in the brand’s history. Let’s check out the list.

WhatsApp Won’t Support These iPhones in 2025

WABetaInfo’s report says WhatsApp will drop support for iOS older than 15.1 in 2025. This means that iPhone 5s and the most popular iPhones of all time—iPhone 6 and 6 Plus—will stop supporting WhatsApp next year.

The report includes a screenshot (image below) of a notification that will be shown to a user on an older iPhone. According to the screenshot shared, WhatsApp will stop working on these smartphones, starting May 5, 2025.

WhatsApp is offering a five-month heads-up to users of these devices to upgrade or consider alternatives to continue using the service. Users can simply back up their WhatsApp chat history to iCloud and restore their chat history and media to the newer device with WhatsApp’s chat transfer feature.

WhatsApp is known for introducing new and updated features across platforms, and for that, it relies on updated APIs and improved technologies offered by newer iOS versions. Hence, the platform needs to discontinue support for older software versions for a uniform user experience across all platforms and devices.

Apart from these popular iPhones, WhatsApp will also stop working on KaiOS devices, starting in 2025. This includes popular feature phones like JioPhone, JioPhone 2, and more that will no longer support the instant messaging platform. WhatsApp has already stopped accepting registration from new users on KaiOS and has restricted download access.
