WhatsApp is set to enhance its AI capabilities with a new feature currently being tested for Android users. This update will integrate Meta AI into group chats, bringing smarter and more intuitive interactions to group conversations. This was earlier available as a personal AI assistant. Here’s a look at the details.
Meta AI Coming to Group Chats
WABetaInfo suggests that WhatsApp is rolling out the Android beta update, version 2.25.6.10, and this includes the ability to make AI-generated images in group chats. However, currently, this is limited to group chat icons.
The new feature will create AI-based profile pictures for group chats, which is particularly helpful in situations when you can’t find a suitable picture for the group icon. It is also apt for Communities with multiple groups. So you can share specific instructions for the group icon with Meta AI and see the magic!
This, however, can’t be used to create profile pictures for your WhatsApp account. Therefore, your Meta AI chatbot can come in handy for that.
Meta AI in a group chat will also help you ideate with people, say, for a presentation or even help you plan that long-pending trip with friends. The chatbot will only read the messages you feed it and won’t impact your other WhatsApp chats.
In other news, WhatsApp has released another Android beta update, version 2.25.6.14. This beta update introduced a Meta AI widget, allowing you to easily and conveniently access the chatbot with a single tap.
The widget can be added to the home screen and can be resized. The Meta AI widget will also support some shortcuts,
- For opening a chat with Meta AI.
- Sharing a picture with the chatbot.
- Starting a voice session with the chatbot.
Both these features are still in the testing phase but should roll out soon, considering how quickly WhatsApp releases new features. We will keep you posted with details when we have them, so stay tuned.
