YouTube held the annual Made on YouTube 2024 event in New York and announced several new features for YouTube such as Hype, Auto Dubbing, Gifts, Veo, Inspiration and more. Here’s everything you need to know.
New YouTube Features
YouTube Communities
The YouTube Communities is a new space for creators to interact with fans, acting more like a group, rather than a one-sided interaction. Subscribers of a channel can post in the communities made by creators, and other subscribers can comment and reply to those posts.
Hype
Hype is a new way for viewers to help small to medium-sized creators on YouTube. After clicking on the Like button on a video, viewers can “hype” the video to push the video to a Hype leaderboard, so the creator will get more recognition and reach with the video.
Auto Dubbing
Auto dubbing is coming to YouTube as a native feature. Creators will soon be able to add AI-dubbed versions of their videos to reach more audiences in other languages. Creators will get the option to review the dub and make changes to it before publishing. It will be an invite-only feature and will not be available to all creators.
Veo for Dream Screen
Dream Screen is the feature on YouTube Shorts that lets creators generate backgrounds for green screen videos. Google is amping it up with Google DeepMind’s new video generation model, Veo. YouTube says this will bring more realistic clips to Dream Screen.
Inspiration
The inspiration tab is getting a makeover with an AI chatbot, which can help creators brainstorm video ideas, thumbnails, titles, and more.
More Features
Gifts, powered by Jewels is launching on YouTube Live. This feature allows viewers to gift their favourite creators using jewels purchased with real money. This unlocks a new way for creators to earn money on YouTube.
There’s also the Community Hub in the YouTube Studio app, a place for creators to engage with their audience more easily. Creators now also get an option to reply with AI-enhanced replies, where creators can reply with AI-generated comments with the tap of a button.
YouTube creators can now organise their content into seasons and episodes like a TV show to stand out on the YouTube TV app.
Additionally, the new YouTube Shopping program, which helps creators earn affiliate commissions on showcasing products in videos is expanding to more countries like Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. However, there was no mention of YouTube Shopping launching in India.
