If you haven’t been able to buy Sony’s new PlayStation 5 in India yet, May 27 may be the right day for you. While the console is out of stock on most online channels again, Vijay Sales, one of the largest electronics retail chains in India, has announced that it will begin accepting pre-booking for the PlayStation 5 from May 27 onwards. The company also posted banners for the same on its official website and social media handles. The PlayStation 5’s availability in India has been notoriously low, so it’s likely that Vijay Sales’ stocks will run out pretty soon too.
“We are delighted to initiate the pre-booking of the PS5 console and deliver it to consumers by ensuring compliance with all the safety protocols amid the lockdown. The product is short in stock while its demand is skyrocketing in the market. There are high chances for it to go out of stock within a few minutes. Hence, we would suggest all the fans gear up and be ready to grab it as soon as the pre-booking goes live,” said Karan Gupta, Director of Vijay Sales.
However, Vijay Sales will be selling the Digital Edition of the Sony PlayStation 5 in the country, so you will have to look for other means if you want the Standard Edition of the device. The console will be priced at Rs. 49,990.
Sony’s chief financial officer (CFO), Hiroki Totoki, had recently said that the company’s stock troubles will likely continue well into 2022. “I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PS5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand,” Totoki said earlier this month.
According to reports, the PS5 has outsold the PS4 in terms of total units sold by this time in the consoles’ life cycles. However, Sony has sold over 100 million units of the PlayStation 4 during the predecessor’s entire life cycle, which is a tough challenge to beat.
