Sony PlayStation 5 is up for pre-orders in most of the countries and the console is all set to launch on November 12th. But it seems India is not going to witness the launch on the same date as the company is yet to announce the pricing and availability of the PS5 for the Indian market. According to a report from The Marko Reactor, Sony is dealing with a bigger problem. Reportedly the company won’t have the trademark for PS5 name in the country.
According to the report, the trademark for the PS5 name was filed by Hitesh Aswani on October 29, 2019, in India. The filing was done three months before Sony filed its patent for the trademark. Currently, the case is in challenging state, Sony has to win the trademark otherwise it might cause a major issue for the company to launch the device in India.
This is not the first time a major brand is facing a trademark issue in India. Earlier ASUS faced the same issue with the ZenFone name copyright, the Taiwanese manufacturer as sued by the local brand for using its existing Zen Mobile trademark. Ultimately ASUS was forced to remove ZenFone from its ZenFone 6 smartphone and launch it’s as ASUS 6z in the Indian market.
However, it seems Sony will not face difficulty in this case because the PS5 filling is done by an individual. Sony can easily prove that the trademark belongs to them by showing its prior moniker. But the problem is the delay in securing the trademark, which might delay the launch of the PlayStation 5 in India. Looking at the current scenario it’s tough to expect the availability of the pricing of the PS5 in India.
The Marko Reactor report also suggests that the PlayStation 5 might launch at Rs 55,000 in India which is around Rs 5,000 expensive than the XBOX Series X. Let’s see when Sony is planning to launch the gaming console in the country.
