
Sony has officially launched the Sony WF-1000XM3 successor earbuds, the Sony WF-1000XM4 yesterday. The newly announced WF-1000XM4 earbuds has Sony’s V1 chip embedded inside and they offer improved noise cancellation and better audio quality. These new earbuds are smaller, offer active noise cancellation (ANC), and they support Sony’s LDAC codec for higher-quality audio streaming. Apart from active noise cancellation, the Sony WF-1000XM4 also has passive noise isolation as well. These new earbuds are equipped with 6mm drivers, and they are Hi-Res Audio certified. The Sony WF-1000XM4 comes in Black and Silver colour options. These new earbuds are priced at around $279 (Rs 20,342) in the US. The WF-1000XM4 are available for purchase on Sony’s website, Amazon, Best Buy, and other retailers.

The Sony WF-1000XM4 offer has better audio quality and offers improved noise cancellation compared to the predecessor. These new earbuds are equipped with Sony’s V1 chip. The processor is aided with each of the microphones on the sides of both earbuds and is responsible for advanced noise cancellation. As mentioned above, apart from active noise cancellation (ANC), these earbuds also support passive noise isolation. Sony mentions that the microphones present on the earbuds support beamforming technology, to offer improved call quality. The earbuds have a conduction sensor, and the SoC inside is capable of automatic wind noise suppression.
As mentioned above, the Sony WF-1000XM4 is equipped with a 6mm driver unit with a 20% larger magnet. These earbuds support Sony’s LDAC and are also Hi-Res Audio certified. Apart from this, the earbuds also support Sony’s DSEE Extreme and Sony’s 360 Reality Audio technology. The WF-1000XM4 also has fast pairing support for Android and Windows 10. The earbuds can detect if you are speaking, and it can automatically pause the music, and enable Ambient Sound. The Sony’s V1 chip integrates Bluetooth and noise cancellation. On the XM3 these functionalities were achieved with two different chips.
With all these features equipped in, Sony has not compromised battery life on earbuds. The WF-1000XM4 can last for 8 hours on a single charge when ANC is enabled, and 12 hours with ANC is off. With the case, the earbuds offer 16 hours (with ANC) and 24 hours (Without ANC) battery backup. The WF-1000XM4 supports both fast wired charging and Qi wireless charging. With 5 minutes of charge, the earbuds can offer 60 minutes of playback time, as per Sony. Last but not least, these new earbuds have an IPX4 rating, meaning that it can withstand some water splashes.
