Sony is gearing up for the launch of the Sony WF-1000XM4 successor in the form of the Sony WF-1000XM5. The key specifications of these upcoming earbuds were revealed by The Walkman Blog a few days back. Additionally, we even saw the renders of the WF-1000XM5 courtesy of Winfuture.de. The renders revealed that these new TWS earbuds will come in Black and Silver colourways. Now, ahead of the official launch, we at MySmartPrice have spotted the Sony WF-1000XM5 on Wireless Power Consortium certification.

Sony WF-1000XM5 Gets Certified By Wireless Power Consortium

The new Sony TWS earbuds carry a model number as the Y2963. These are the same earbuds which were certified by FCC back in February. Considering that these earbuds are certified by Wireless Power Consortium, we can expect them to use Qi wireless charging similar to that of the Sony WF-1000XM4. The new earbuds are listed on the certification website with 2W wireless charging support.

As far as the other details of the WF-1000XM5 go, they are expected to be smaller than the WF-1000XM4, which no doubt will be more comfortable to wear. Similar to the WF-1000XM4, the upcoming WF-1000XM5 will also retain the built-in active noise cancellation support. A leaked specs sheet suggests that the XM5 TWS earbuds will weigh 5.9 grams each, compared to the 7.3 grams buds of the XM4.

Furthermore, the past leak suggests that the XM5 will offer a total listening time of 24 hours with a charging case, similar to that of XM4. It is also reported that the earbuds will offer 1 hour of usage with just three minutes of charging. For reference, the previous XM4 took five minutes of charging to provide 1 hour of usage. The case of the XM5 will be charged via a USB Type-C port, and it will also support Qi charging. Last, but not least, the XM5 will also have multi-point connectivity, touch controls, and precise voice pickup technology.

As of now, the launch date of the XM5 remains unknown currently. Considering that Sony had launched the XM4 was launched in June 2021, and XM3 in August 2019, we can expect the upcoming Sony WF-1000XM5 to debut in June to August timeframe.
