Sony has launched the WH-1000XM5 wireless headphones, which are the successor to the popular Sony WH-1000XM4 wireless headphones. The new model offers improved active noise cancellation (ANC), an improved and new design, longer battery life, a 30mm audio driver setup, and much more.
The Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones are powered by two audio processors and they support multiple codecs and audio profiles. These headphones are also suitable for long calls and long flights as Sony says, they’re comfortable to wear for longer durations. Sony WH-1000XM5: Price and Availability
The Sony WH-1000XM5 wireless headphones are priced at £379 in the UK and $399.99 in the US market. The product is now available for pre-order in both countries. These headphones are available in Black and Silver colour options. There is no word on the Indian launch and availability of the headphones at the moment, but we expect them to arrive in the near future.
Sony WH-1000XM5: Features and Specifications
The Sony WH-1000XM5 are over the ear headphones fitted with Bluetooth 5.2 for stable wireless connectivity. On the inside, these headphones are packed with a large 30mm dynamic driver unit with support for SBC, AAC, LDAC audio formats and A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, and HSP sound profiles. There is also DSEE Extreme, which is an AI-based process that restores detail from lossy compressed formats and brings more clarity.
In terms of design, these headphones are now more cylindrical and offer a thinner headband. The newly implemented earcups can rotate sideways, but can’t be folded inwards like the last-gen. The key feature here, as it has always been on the XM series headphones is the active noise cancellation. Sony has integrated the new V1 processor that unlocks HD Noise Cancelling processor QN1. This combo of eight mics is rated to offer excellent noise cancelling quality. There is also an Auto NC optimizer, which is automatically optimised based on your wearing conditions and environment. There is also offer ambient mode, which allows you to be aware of your surrounding while you are listening to music. Apart from that, the WH-1000XM5 also support Hi-Res and Hi-Res audio wireless.
These headphones come with a stereo jack as well and there is a detachable single-sided cord with 1.2 meters in length. In terms of battery life, they can last up to 30 hours on a single charge with ANC on and up to 40 hours with ANC off 一 for music. For calls, these numbers go down to 24 hours and 32 hours. A full charge takes about 3.5 hours and you can charge via a USB Type-C port.
Other features include quick attention mode, quick access to music by using two or three taps, Google Assistant, and Alexa voice assistant, Google Fast Pair, multipoint connection, touch controls, collapsable design, 360-degree reality audio, Dolby Atmos and 360 Spatial Sound on select Sony TVs. Lastly, the headphones weigh 250 grams, making them easy to carry around as well.
