Sony WH-1000XM5 India Launch Teased by Amazon, New Headphones Can Offer Up to 40 Hours of Battery Life

The Sony WH-1000XM5 comes with a 30mm driver setup.

Sony launched the WH-1000XM5 noise cancelling headphones back in May globally. These are the latest flagship headphones from Sony and the newest model in the 1000XM series comes with better and improved active noise cancellation (ANC), a new design, longer battery life, a 30mm audio driver setup, and much more.

Now, Sony is gearing up to launch the new headphones in India ahead of the festive season. Sony is teasing the launch of a new headphone product in India on Amazon ahead of the Amazon Great Indian Festival Sale, which is all set to start on September 23rd. Last year, Sony India launched the WH-1000XM4 headphones in September as well.

While the teaser does not confirm the name of the product, checking the page’s source code revealed the name of the product as “sony/nm/1000XM5” and the image on the site has a “1000XM5” name to it. Moreover, the image on the site resembles the already launched Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones. Let’s take a look at the details.

Sony WH-1000XM5: Features and Specifications

The Sony WH-1000XM5 are over-the-ear headphones with Bluetooth 5.2 wireless connectivity. On the inside, there is a large 30mm dynamic driver unit with support for SBC, AAC, LDAC audio formats and A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, and HSP sound profiles. There is also DSEE Extreme, which is an AI-based process that restores detail from lossy compressed formats and brings more clarity.

As for the design, the 1000XM5s are now more cylindrical and the newly implemented earcups can rotate sideways, but can’t be folded inwards like the last gen. Sony has integrated the new V1 processor that unlocks HD Noise Cancelling processor QN1. This combo of eight mics is rated to offer excellent noise-cancelling quality. The WH-1000XM5 also support Hi-Res and Hi-Res audio wireless.

In terms of battery life, they can last up to 30 hours on a single charge with ANC on and up to 40 hours with ANC off 一 for music. For calls, these numbers go down to 24 hours and 32 hours. A full charge takes about 3.5 hours and you can charge via a USB Type-C port.

Other features include quick attention mode, quick access to music by using two or three taps, Google Assistant, Google Fast Pair, multipoint connection, touch controls, Dolby Atmos and 360 Spatial Sound on select Sony TVs. Globally, the headphones are priced at $399.99, which is roughly Rs 31,650.
