Tata Tiago EV has finally made its debut in India as the latest electric car from the house of Tata Motors. The electric version of the Tiago hatchback has been launched at quite an aggressive price, with the base model costing Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom). This introductory price makes the new Tiago EV the most affordable electric car to have ever been produced by Tata Motors.

The hype around Tiago EV’s launch had been building for months now, majorly because of the low price point of the vehicle as compared to most other EVs on sale in India. Sitting below the Tigor EV, the Tiago EV is meant to be an effort from Tata Motors to make electric cars more accessible to Indian buyers. The company first addressed the speculations on its launch date on Word EV Day, celebrated on September 9. Now that the day is here, we have official details on everything there is to know about the new Tiago EV.

For instance, Tata Motors will be selling a total of four trims of the Tiago EV. These trims will have further options based on the battery pack that the buyer opts for. Starting from Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the most premium variant of the Tiago EV will go up to Rs 11.79 lakh, ex-showroom. Buyers will also have a choice of five colour variants for the electric car.

As for some of the highlights of the Tiago EV, Tata Motors promises that the new electric hatchback can cover about 315km on a single charge and can go from 0 to 60kmph in 5.7 seconds. Some of the notable features of the EV include cruise control, automatic headlamps, push-button start/stop, automatic climate control, and rain-sensing wipers.

Here are all the other details you need to know about the Tiago EV.

Tata Tiago EV Price and Bookings

As mentioned, the Tiago EV has been priced at Rs 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base model. This makes the electric car about Rs 3 lakh more expensive than the petrol variant of the Tiago. The difference is not too much, as we have seen in most other EVs on sale in India. This helps make the Tiago EV the most affordable electric car in India right now.

The four variants of the new Tiago EV are – XE, XT, XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux. The XE gets a single trim, while the XT, XZ+ and XZ+ Tech Lux get two options each, based on the battery and charging capacity. Here is a price list of all the variants.

Tata Tiago EV Variants and Price List
Model Battery Charging capacity Price
XE 19.2kWh 3.3kW AC Rs 8.49 lakh
XT 19.2kWh 3.3kW AC Rs 9.09 lakh
XT 24kWh 3.3kW AC Rs 9.99 lakh

XZ+ Tech Lux 24kWh 3.3kW AC Rs 11.29 lakh
XZ+ Tech Lux 24kWh 7.2kW AC Rs 11.79 lakh

Note that these are introductory prices for the Tiago EV and will only be applicable for the first 10,000 customers of the electric car. 2,000 of these units will be reserved for existing Nexon EV customers. Tata Motors will likely up the price for the Tiago EV once this lot is sold out.

Bookings for the Tata Tiago EV hatchback will commence on October 10. The company has promised to begin deliveries of the car in January next year.

Tata Tiago EV Range and Performance

Tata Motors has used its Ziptron EV architecture for the Tiago EV, meaning the vehicle comes with a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The motor is able to produce 74hp of peak power and 114Nm of peak torque. Thanks to this, the Tiago EV can go from 0 to 60kmph in 5.7 seconds.

To back this motor, the Tiago EV comes with two lithium-ion battery pack options – a 19.2kWh battery with an estimated MIDC range of 250km, and a step-up 24kWh battery with a range of 315km. Similarly, there are two options for the charging capacity of these batteries – 3.3kWh and 7.2kWh. The latter can juice up the car’s battery from 0 to 80 per cent in just 57 minutes.

Both the battery pack and the electric motor on the Tiago EV have an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. Tata is also offering an 8-year (or 1,60,000km, whichever comes first) warranty on the battery and motor.

Tata Tiago EV Features

The Tiago EV is very similar to the ICE version of the car, except for some blue accents around the body that help identify its electric nature. A few other design elements exclusive to the Tiago EV include Y-shaped badges across the front grille, a new wheel cap design, body colour door handles with black inserts, leatherette steering wheel and seats, a rotary dial in place of the gear lever, and a dual tone colour theme.

Inside, the Tiago EV carries features like push-button start/stop, automatic climate control, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, ABS with EBD, rear parking camera, multi-mode regen braking, and cruise control.
