Tecno has launched the Tecno Pova 3 in India and on the paper it looks solid for an introductory price of Rs 11,499. A mega 7,000mAh battery, large 6.9-inch FHD+ display, 50MP triple camera setup, and much more look appealing to us. Tecno has packed almost all the specs extra than what the competition has been offering. But all things that look pleasing to the eyes are actually good or just numbers on the paper? We used the Tecno Pova 3 for a week and here’re the five reasons why you should buy the device and two reasons why you should not. Our review of the handset is also live, so for more details, you can check that out as well.
Top Reasons to Buy Tecno Pova 3
Premium Design at a Budget
The Tecno Pova 3 is priced at under Rs 12,000 in India but the design makes you feel like it’s a premium device. It has varieties within the different colour variants; for example, the blue variant gets an LED strip on the back while the silver and black variants have a glossy strip on the back.
The material is made of plastic but offers a good in-hand feel. The area around the left and right sides has a glossy finish that gives it a gaming phone look. There is no camera bump on the back so the phone gets steady on any flat surface.
The Tecno Pova 3 has the segment’s largest 7,000mAh battery with charging support of 33W. This is a huge battery compared to the 5,000 or 6,000mAh that its competition has been offering. During our usage, the phone was capable of providing 13-14 hours of screen time. One can easily use the device for two or a max of three days in general usage which is good battery life.
The 33W charger that you get inside the box can charge the device from 0 to 50% in 46 minutes and complete to 100% in 2 hours and 30 minutes.
For Beginners in Gaming
The Tecno Pova 3 is powered by the Mediatek Helio G88 which is a budget gaming processor. The device has been optimized for gaming. Furthermore, the Phantom Engine 2.0 and Gaming Space 2.0 provide a smooth gaming experience when you play graphics-intense titles.
Our gaming experience on the Tecno Pova 3 was good. We played a lot of offline games which ran smoothly. Call of Duty: Mobile was good on the device and it can run at maximum Medium graphics at High frame rate. Battlegrounds Mobile India was moderate to play and it can run at max HDR settings at High frame rate.
Screen for Content Consumption
With a large 6.9-inch FHD+ display, the media viewing experience on the Tecno Pova 3 becomes better. It is an IPS LCD display that has a screen resolution of 2460 x 1080. It has a 90Hz refresh rate and a 180Hz touch sampling rate.
The screen is quick, responsive and bright enough to view content under direct sunlight. The display is also sharp and produces well-balanced colours with good clarity. The dual stereo speakers produce crisp sound, which is loud enough for watching content. The 90Hz refresh rate makes the scrolling experience smoother on the device.
Good Selfie Camera
The Tecno Pova 3 has an 8 megapixel front camera that produces some good selfies. It produces pictures with natural skin tone and captures ample amounts of details. For the price, this is a good selfie camera. You can use it for video calls. The front camera can shoot videos at up to 2K resolution which is better than 1080 pixels that the competition has been offering.
Top Reasons Not to Buy Tecno Pova 3
The Tecno Pova 3 boots Android 12 based HiOS v8.6 which is a good thing that it runs the latest Android version out of the box. However, you might not find the OS clean. It is filled with loads of bloatware. Moreover, the sad thing here is that you can’t uninstall all of them. These apps also spam notifications throughout the day, which can be a bit annoying. Furthermore, it doesn’t feature the Android 12’s Material You customisation feature which is one of its biggest highlights.
Disappointing Rear Camera
The Tecno Pova 3 packs a 50-megapixel triple camera setup that is accompanied by a 2-megapixel depth sensor and AI lens. We used the device and felt that the two secondary sensors do not offer anything much. Things could have been better if the company had provided an ultrawide lens instead of these sensors. That said, the camera quality is not up to the mark. The primary lens struggles to keep the colours consistent in the pictures.
