The Game Awards is Set to Return on December 8, Geoff Keighley Announces

Nominees for this year's The Game Awards will likely be announced closer to December.

The Game Awards returns this year for its ninth annual show, streaming live around the world from the Microsoft Theater in LA. The show will take place on December 8, Thursday and will likely feature a series of game announcements, trailers, and reveals.

The Game Awards, hosted and produced by Geoff Keighley, has become a popular fixture in the gaming calendar and is one of the most highly-anticipated events during the year. The show typically includes massive announcements, “World Premieres” from major publishers, including the likes of PlayStation Studios, Xbox, EA, Activision, and more.

Keighley has yet to announce the publishers to be featured in the upcoming awards show and the list of nominees is also yet to be revealed.

The Game Awards Returns this December 8, Live from LA

2022 has been an exceptionally strong year for gaming with games like Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West being in strong contention for Game of the Year. Alongside massive AAA hits are also a number of a smaller budget, indie titles that have made quite the impact, such as Sifu and Tunic.

The year is far from over as there are plenty of major titles headed for release later during the year, including God of War Ragnarok. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the year shapes up and what the nominees at this year’s The Game Awards look like.

A major portion of the gaming community tends to look at The Game Awards as the new E3 as the show tends to feature a large number of game trailers and announcements. With E3 set to return next year as an in-person event, it will be interesting to see the kind of numbers both The Game Awards and E3 pull in.
