This Popular Dating App is Hooking Up COVID-19 Patients With Plasma Donors

The rise in number of cases of COVID-19 has led companies to try and help in any way they can, and TrulyMadly's solution may be the most unique yet.

Homegrown dating app, TrulyMadly, is putting its matchmaking algorithms to use to battle the pandemic. The company today announced that the Corona Clusters section of the app, will now be used to match COVID-19 patients with plasma donors. TrulyMadly’s feature will be available on CoronaClusters.in and seems to work for users across the country. “The second wave of the pandemic has severely affected the country and despite information being available, it is largely unverified or dated in nature and only adding to the information overload. We decided to use the underlying technology of our matchmaking engine for couples to also help COVID-19 patients meet the right plasma donor,” said Snehil Khanor, chief executive office (CEO) and co-founder of TrulyMadly.

Twitter and Instagram have been flooded with requests from covid patients and their families, requesting help in finding plasma donors, so the feature could end up being useful for many. It’s unclear how effective TrulyMadly’s algorithms are for being used in this situation. The company said Corona Clusters uses verified crowdsourced data and APIs from covid19India.org, to share updates on total active, recovered, and death cases on a real time basis. It’s unclear how this leads to the creation of donor lists though, and where Truly Madly will get all of the users’ personal details.

Further, according to the company, the “plasma matchmaking” feature will help patients find the right matches when they have to undertake a “frantic search” for donors. The company said it matches important information like blood group, COVID-19 diagnosis date, location, contact details, and phone number. Of course. Truly Madly isn’t looking at this as a medical solution, but if enough people get on board, it could be a novel way to reach new donors indeed.

TrulyMadly had also launched a multilingual Corona Clusters website last year, meant to deliver COVID-19 related information to users across the country. It also includes state-wise segregation of cases and district and state level health bulletins. The company had launched the Corona Clusters website last year, to provide information about the pandemic. TrulyMadly claims the feature has over 30 lakh users already.
