RRR (Netflix, Zee5 – May 20)


One of the most popular films of this year internationally S S Rajamouli’s RRR broke several global box office records with its theatrical release back on March 24. The film managed to gross Rs 1,132 crore globally and will now be making its OTT premiere on Netflix and Zee5  on Friday, May 20.

The story revolves around two revolutionaries Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem played by Ram Charan and Junior NTR respectively and their friendship and how they took on the British Raj. It also stars Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran.

Panchayat Season 2 (Amazon Prime – May 18)

The first season on the show Panchayat from its makers at TVF was critically acclaimed and received a rousing response from the general audience. This extremely popular show is now back with the expected second season.

Starring an experienced cast including the likes of Raghubir Yadav, Neena Gupta and Jitendra Kumar, this new season will take viewers back to the village of Phulera in Uttar Pradesh for more antics of the new Panchayat Secretary Abhishek Tripathi (Jitendra Kumar), and the village head and the other villagers.

Love Death + Robots Volume 3 (Netflix – May 20)

Netflix is bringing back the Emmy winning animated series by Tim Miller and David Fincher for a third season, despite the lukewarm public reception of the second season. This time around there are more episodes than the second season.

Each of the new nine episodes offer a warped perspective of stories and the humour, fantasy, horror and science-fiction elements in it.

Escaype Live (Disney+Hotstar – May 20)

This new Disney+Hotstar Special show revolves around social media and its impacts. This show is about an app which is strangely similar to TikTok and its top 6 influencers who try to outdo each other to win a prize of Rs 3 crore announced by the app. All the while a righteous employee tries to battle corruption inside the company.

It cast of the show includes Javed Jaffrey, Siddharth, Shweta Tripathi and Ritvik Sahore, among others.

12th Man (Disney+Hotstar – May 20)

This new Malyalam mystery thriller of a film features Mohanlal in the lead along with Unni Mukundan, Sshivada, Anusree, Anu Sithara, Saiju Kurup, Rahul Madhav and is directed by Jeethu Joseph of Drishyam fame.

The film’s story revolves around 12 strangers that meet at a bungalow when invited by a mysterious person. What ensues is a plot for mystery thiller which we would rather not spoil.

Jersey (Netflix – May 20)

This film which was released back in April in India revolves around a has been cricketer played by Shahid Kapoor. Kapoor plays the role of a talented cricketer who left cricket but returns to the field in his thirties in order to fulfil the dream of his son to get a jersey. It also stars Pankaj Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur in prominent roles. The film was received poorly in the box office and only made Rs 27.12 crore failing to cover its budget of Rs 35 crore.
