After a slew of leaks about an upcoming seamless 5G smartphone with no bezels, Vivo has finally taken the wraps off its APEX 2019 smartphone. The concept phone is futuristic and could act as a base for the phones that we could expect this year. Unlike all the phones that debuted before, the Vivo APEX 2019 bids adieu to a charging port, earpiece, speaker grill, or any element that requires an opening on the phone. Wrapped in a unibody design with glass, the APEX 2019 has nothing bothering its sides and edges, the phone even chucks the camera hump and presents us with a flat back. There are many other features on this phone that are industry’s first. Let’s check out all of them.

Vivo APEX 2019: Fullscreen Fingerprint Detection, In-display Speaker, Magnetic Wireless Charger

Vivo APEX 2019

One of the highlights on the APEX 2019 is its fullscreen fingerprint scanning. Yes, you read that right. Earlier, there was just one part of the screen that used to respond on phones with this functionality, but Vivo has taken a leap and integrated a fullscreen detection. The phone allows users to unlock the phone by pressing anywhere on the screen, which means that one does not have to look for a particular spot as was the case with In-display fingerprint functionality on phones like the OnePlus 6T. The APEX 2019 also packs ‘Fingerprint Light’ feature that lights up the area where the user keeps the finger for unlocking.

Another futuristic feature comes in the form of In-display speaker. As the phone has zero opening on the body, it made the display multi-functional. With the help of Body SoundCasting technology, the APEX 2019 transmits sound through the display by vibration. This technology is currently under review by other OEMs like Samsung and LG, and we may see them implementing it on their forthcoming devices.

Thanks to the unibody design without any openings, the APEX 2019 also bids goodbye to the charging port. To make up for that, the phone has a MagPort, which is a compact magnetic connector on the rear panel and enables the phone for wireless charging and also data transfer. Interestingly, the users will be able to use the phone even when it is charging as the wireless charger bundled with it is quite small and snaps to the magnetic connector without any hassle.

Under the hood, the APEX 2019 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 SoC paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of inbuilt storage. It is also Vivo’s first 5G-equipped smartphone. As for the battery, we do not know what’s the capacity. There are a lot many details that are bound to be revealed once Vivo takes an official stage to unveil the device.

For now, Vivo has not shared any information concerning the launch date or price of this revolutionary concept phone. The company is attending the MWC 2019 event in Barcelona, which means that it may announce the APEX 2019 there. Slated for the next month, the MWC 2019 should bring us all the information that we need to know about the APEX 2019.
