Back in February, the Korean smartphone giant, Samsung announced that it would be providing four years of Android security updates for the handsets that are launched since 2019. Inspired by this, the Chinese smartphone maker Vivo and OPPO has also announced a similar plan of providing three years of Android updates for their respective flagship lineups. Last week, OPPO officially confirmed that it would be offering three years of software support for its Find X3 series. Similarly, today Vivo has confirmed that its flagship X-series devices that will be launched after July 2021 will be eligible to get three years of Android OS upgrades and security patches. Let’s check more details on this ahead:

OPPO Find X3 Series Will Recevie Three Years of Security Updates

Speaking about the OPPO’s plan of a three-year Android software update first, the firm usually provides two years of security updates for the Find X-series lineup. Now, that the company has officially confirmed the three years of software support, the Find X3 models will now get an additional year of security patches. According to a report by Android Planet, OPPO is also planning to extend software support to four years. However, research regarding four-year Android support is still going on, as the company is still checking as in how this can be made possible.

According to a statement by OPPO to Android Planet, the OPPO Find X3 series is eligible for three years of software update as per the new schedule. However, the company’s current policy sticks to a two-year software update schedule, which does mean that the OPPO Find X3 lineup will get Android 12 and Android 13 updates.

Vivo Promises Three Years of Android OS Upgrades and Security Updates for Flagship X-series Smartphones

Moving onto Vivo’s new software update schedule, the company today announced that it would be providing three years of major Android OS upgrades and security updates for the flagship X-series phones launching after July 2021. This does imply that the recently announced flagship Vivo X60 series handset won’t be eligible to get three years of software update. The company’s new update policy will cover the European, Australian, and Indian markets. The premium X series devices that are not eligible will continue to receive regular Android security updates.
