Vivo S Flip and V Flip Monikers Emerges in Trademarks

Vivo launched the Vivo X Fold 2 and Vivo X Flip foldable smartphones in April 2023 in China. Vivo X Flip was the first clamshell smartphone from the Chinese OEM. OPPO, which Vivo’s parent company owns, also debuted its first clamshell device along with the second generation of its foldable smartphone. Vivo is tipped to debut two new clamshell smartphones with the Vivo S Flip and Vivo V Flip monikers.

The monikers of the upcoming clamshell smartphones were revealed through the trademark list (via) filed by Vivo. Vivo has filed the trademarks on the EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) website. TECNO recently debuted an affordable clamshell smartphone in India with an upper-mid-range chipset. The reports on the web suggest that the upcoming Vivo S Flip and Vivo V Flip will be mid-range clamshell smartphones.

Vivo applied for the trademarks on September 22 on the EUIPO website. Any party can oppose the trademarks by December 2023. Vivo is likely to debut the upcoming clamshell smartphones in early 2024. The upcoming mid-range clamshell smartphones will likely compete against the recently debuted Moto Razr 40 smartphone. The trademark certification of the upcoming smartphones doesn’t reveal any specifications of the devices.


A previous report revealed that Samsung will debut a mid-range foldable and clamshell smartphone lineup after the Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 launch. Samsung is reportedly working to improve the product lineup in the Galaxy FE (Fan Edition) series. The South Korean giant will host an event in October to debut the Galaxy Tab S9 FE series, Galaxy S23 FE, and Galaxy Buds FE.

To recall, Vivo X Flip features a 6.74-inch AMOLED display with a Full HD+ resolution. The display supports a 120Hz refresh rate, 1920Hz high-frequency PWM dimming, and a centered punch-hole. Vivo equips the smartphone with an AMOLED cover display that measures at 3-inch. The panel has a 682 x 422 pixels resolution, a refresh rate of 60Hz, and curved edges. Vivo has equipped the cover display with a host of functions.

Vivo adds that the device has received TUV Rhineland certification for completing 500,000 folds. Underneath, Vivo equips the Vivo X Flip smartphone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, built on a 4nm process. The chipset is found on several other smartphones, including Nothing Phone (2), OnePlus 11R and more. The chipset pairs with up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

The device runs on Origin OS 3 based on Android 13 out of the box. Vivo equips the device with dual rear cameras placed in a circular camera module. The smartphone features a 50MP Sony IMX 866 sensor with f/1.8 aperture and OIS. The sensor is paired with a secondary 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture. Vivo X Flip sports a 32MP selfie camera inside the punch-hole. The smartphone is backed by a 4400mAh battery with 44W fast charging tech.
