After launching the S1 smartphone in Indonesia last week, Asus is set to release it in India on August 7. Vivo hasn’t explicitly mentioned the launch date but is sending out media invites for a launch with ‘dial S for Style’ written on it. In all probability, it is going to be the launch of Vivo S1. As per the previous leak, the Vivo S1 will be offered in two storage variants. The base model with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB of internal storage will cost Rs 17,990. The 6 GB of RAM + 128 GB storage version is expected to cost a grand or two extra. However, we don’t know the exact price yet. The Vivo S1 features a stylish body with a wave-like gradient pattern at the back. The reflective back finish looks like glass but is made of plastic.
Vivo S1 Specifications
For its latest mid-range smartphone, Vivo has decided to go with an AMOLED panel with FHD+ resolution. With the pixel density of over 400 ppi, you can expect the display to be sharp. AMOLED is inherently superior to the LCD technology as it does not depend on any backlight. You get deep blacks and vibrant colors. Asus has implemented in-display fingerprint sensor. The screen has a waterdrop notch to accommodate the 32 MP front-facing camera. Around the back, the phone offers a triple camera setup. Vivo sources the primary 16 MP IMX499 sensor from the Japanese tech giant Sony, which is coupled with an 8 MP wide-angle sensor and 2 MP depth sensor. The camera offers modes such as Pano, Pro, and AI beauty.
The Vivo S1 is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P65 chipset. This 12 nm SoC (System on Chip) houses eight processing cores coupled with Mali-G52 GPU. In India, the phone will be available in 4 GB RAM option with 64 GB and 128 GB RAM to choose from. Moreover, you can expand the storage via a microSD card slot. The Vivo S1 is a dual SIM handset with support from 4G VoLTE. Other connectivity features include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, A-GPS, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a micro USB port. The phone draws power from a 4,500 mAh battery. It is equipped with Vivo’s VOOC 3.0 fast charging support. On the software side of things, the handset runs FunTouch OS based on Android 9 Pie. It comes with Vivo’s in-house AI assistant Jovi along with Google Assistant.
With its starting price set to be around 17,990, the Vivo S1 will compete with the likes of Realme X, which is priced at Rs 16,999 for 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage. In addition to an AMOLED display, the Realme X offers a fancy motorized pop-up selfie camera and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 chip.
