
Vivo recently launched its first ultra-competitive mid-range smartphone, the Vivo Z1 Pro (Review), to compete with the likes of Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro (Review) and the Realme 3 Pro (Review). Now, the company is ready for the launch of yet another lower mid-range mobile phone, the Vivo S1. The phone hasn’t been announced officially, but its images, packaging, and specifications have been leaked already. The phone will soon be launched in India. Also, do not confuse this Vivo S1 with the Vivo S1 that’s meant for the Chinese market.
The Vivo S1 looks attractive, thanks to its gradient color. It also has a bezel-less screen and a triple-camera setup at the rear. There’s a high-resolution selfie camera as well, something we should always expect from a Vivo smartphone. Let us have a look at its detailed specifications and expected pricing.
Vivo S1 Features, Specifications
The Vivo S1 runs Android 9 Pie-based Funtouch OS 9 custom skin and user interface. The phone uses a MediaTek Helio P65 chipset, which has two ARM Cortex-A75 64-bit CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, six ARM Cortex-A55 64-bit CPU cores clocked at 2GHz, and ARM Mali-G52 2EEMC2 GPU. The phone has 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage (ROM). The Vivo S1 has a 6.53-inch Super AMOLED screen with Full HD+ resolution (2340×1080 pixels) and in under-display optical fingerprint reader. There’s a U-shaped notch on the screen’s top-middle portion to accommodate the selfie camera.
In terms of imaging, the Vivo S1’s 32MP front-facing camera is used for capturing selfies or for video calls. It will most probably spit out 8MP images after the 4-in-1 pixel binning process and record 1080p videos at 30fps. At the rear, the phone carries a triple-camera setup at the rear, and it consists of a 16MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide-angle camera, and a 2MP depth-sensing camera sensor. There’s no information about the maximum video recording resolution of the rear-facing camera. It will most probably be 1080p at 30 or 60fps. The phone will support 4G LTE (with dual-SIM and VoLTE), GNSS, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone port.
The Vivo S1 will be powered by a 4500mAh non-removable battery that can be rapidly charged (18W) using the bundled Dual Engine charge. The phone will be available in at least two color variants: Dark Blue+Purple gradient and White+Light Blue gradient.
How Is Vivo S1 For Indian Market Different From Vivo S1 For Chinese Market?
The Vivo S1 for the Chinese market has a completely bezel-less and notch-less 6.53-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution. At the rear, the phone has a 12MP+8MP+5MP triple rear-facing camera, wherein the 12MP camera is the primary sensor with a wide-angle lens, the 8MP sensor has an ultrawide-angle camera, and the 5MP camera measures depth information. The rear-facing camera setup can record 4K 30fps and 1080p 30fps videos. At the front, the Vivo S1 for the Chinese market has a 25MP pop-up selfie camera with F2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording.
The Vivo S1 for the Chinese market is equipped with a more powerful chipset in the form of the MediaTek Helio P70 chipset, which has four 64-bit ARM Cortex-A73 CPU cores clocked at 2.1Ghz, four 64-bit ARM Cortex-A53 CPU cores clocked at 2.0GHz, and ARM Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. The phone has 6GB RAM, 128GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. The phone runs Android 9 Pie-based Funtouch OS 9, similar to the Vivo S1 for the Indian market. It is powered by a 3940mAh battery with 18W Dual Engine fast battery charging technology. The phone has a rear-mounted capacitive fingerprint reader, GNSS, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 5.0, microUSB 2.0 port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
The Vivo S1 for the Chinese market has a cheaper screen and a relatively lower-capacity battery but it compensates with a faster processor and an ability to record 4K videos.
