People either had to choose a really good device for under INR 15K or had to literally spend over INR 30K to get an affordable flagship. That, however, no longer is the case thanks to the advent of a couple of new devices last year some of which changed the way we look at mid-range devices. In this article, we take a close look at three mid-range smartphones that you can currently buy in India and to a large extent, compete with each other. These three devices are the Vivo V15 Pro, the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018), and the POCO F1 from Xiaomi. The Vivo V15 Pro is sold in a single version in India that costs INR 28,999
The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) comes in two versions in India that currently retail for INR 30,990 for the 6GB version and INR 33,990 for the 8GB version.
The POCO F1 is currently offered in three storage and RAM options. The prices are as follows. The base 6GB+64 costs INR 19,990 while the 6GB+128GB version has been priced at INR 22,999. The 8GB+256GB version will set you back by INR 27,999. Then there are two other versions with the Armoured rear panel in 6GB+128GB (INR 23,999) and 8GB+256GB versions (INR 28,999)
Vivo V15 Pro vs. Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) vs. Xiaomi POCO F1: Specifications compared
The Vivo V15 Pro is the newest handset among these three and was only announced two days ago here in India. It also sports the newest processor among the three – the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset. This SoC features an octa-core processor with two Kryo 460 Gold cores mated to 6 Kryo 460 Silver cores. The graphics is handled by the Adreno 612 GPU, and the phone comes in 6GB/128GB variant here in India. The camera setup on the device includes a 48-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel secondary wide-angle camera, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The front camera is the highlight feature of the Vivo V15 Pro thanks to its pop-up nature. This camera captures 32-megapixel selfies. As for the display, the Vivo V15 Pro gets a large 6.39-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080×2316 pixels with a PPI density of 400. The phone features a 3,700 mAh battery and uses the micro USB standard for wired connectivity.
The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC which is positioned just below the SD675 used on the V15 Pro. This chipset also houses an octa-core processor with four 2.2 GHz Kryo 260 cores and four 1.8 GHz Kryo 260 cores. The graphics is handled by the Adreno 512 GPU. The phone is offered in 6GB/64GB and 8GB/128GB versions in India. The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) features a quad camera set up at the rear that includes a 24-megapixel primary wide-angle camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The front-facing camera on the Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) is a 24-megapixel unit. The Samsung Galaxy A9 (2018) uses a 6.3-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels in the 18.5:9 aspect ratio and a PPI density of 393. This handset gets a 3,700 mAh battery with a USB Type-C connector for cable connectivity.
The POCO F1 gets the flagship grade Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC that features an octa-core processor with four 2.8 GHz Kryo 385 Gold cores and four 1.8 GHz Kryo 385 Silver cores. The phone comes in several variants including a 6GB+64GB version, a 6GB+128GB version, and an 8GB+256GB variant. The POCO F1 features a dual camera setup consisting of a 12-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel depth sensor. As for the front camera, the POCO F1 gets a 20-megapixel unit here for selfies and video calling. The display on the POCO F1 is an IPS LCD panel with 1080 x 2246 pixel resolution and a PPI density of 403. The POCO F1 boasts of a 4,000 mAh battery and a USB Type-C port as well.

Looking at the pricing, the POCO F1 clearly offers the most bang for your buck. If you want an all-out performance device, you simply cannot go wrong with even the base version of the POCO F1 which currently retails for under INR 20,000. The V15 Pro is the coolest among these three because of its uber cool pop-up front camera. The handset is also quite competent as far as the rest of the specifications are concerned. The Galaxy A9 (2018) even with its recent price cuts is still an expensive device for what it has on offer, and only a hardcore Samsung fanboy will go for it.
