Here’s why the vivo V20 with Eye AF feature will redefine the front camera capabilities forever!

The vivo v20 will come with an eye autofocus (AF) feature, which is a stable in DSLR cameras. The slim and sleek phone is expected to launch on October 13th in India.

Cameras are one of the biggest considerations when choosing a smartphone. The smartphone camera has evolved exponentially over the last few years. And the difference between the quality of DSLR and a smartphone is reducing day-by-day. Smartphones nowadays are able to provide DSLR-grade quality, while still maintaining a compact design. And, with the sudden rise of short-video apps like Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Moj etc., the demand for great cameras in a smartphone is at all-time high.

Whether it’s taking selfies, making short videos, or something else, the need of hour is innovations in front camera tech. We have seen multiple brands giving you decent selfie cameras, but most of them offer the same basic features. But, there is one company that has been able to revolutionise the segment. This brand took the selfie trend to next level and redefined the use of front cameras by introducing some futuristic technologies. Yes, we are talking about vivo!

The company has been on the forefront of innovations when it comes to providing exceptional imaging both from the front and the back. vivo has become a synonym for a brand that delivers an unrivalled camera experience. For those who don’t want to compromise with the image quality, the V-series has emerged as the best lineup for selfie lovers.

Now, vivo is all set to bring to the smartphone space a new technology called Eye Auto Focus, which has so far been restricted to DSLRs, in the V20 launching on October 13. Wondering what it is? Before we get to this new feature, we need to first understand the importance of Focus in a smartphone and its different types.

Focus basically helps to highlight the subject or a part of the frame. Most smartphones employ either Autofocus or Fixed Focus. The former is a system in which the lenses adjust automatically in order to sharpen the object, or a part of it. However, in a Fixed Focus system, the lenses are fixed. These lenses cannot focus at the foreground and background at the same time. Thus, creating a bokeh effect. Autofocus helps the camera choose different objects in the frame, making it an ideal choice for photography, especially in a smartphone. Within Autofocus are two different systems: Eye AF and Face AF.

What is Eye AF?

Eye Auto Focus (AF), as the name suggests, is a system that tracks the movement of the eyes. This ensures that the subject is in constant focus even if they are moving back and forth, in or out of the frame. In simple terms, imagine you are recording a selfie with your excitable toddler. While shooting the video or even taking a photo, you will notice that the camera is unable to track the child’s movement properly, which results in a constant blur. This is where Eye AF comes in, as it locks the focus on the child’s eyes, resulting in a constant focus on the subject.

How is Eye AF different from Face AF?

Most smartphones nowadays come with face autofocus feature, though some still employ fixed-focus. While fixed focus ensures the subject are in focus, there is a limitation while using it as you don’t get to choose which subject in the frame to focus on. Face Autofocus, on the other hand, tracks the movements of the face. This ensures the subject stays in focus even if it is moving.

However, Face AF is not always reliable. It goes for a toss when the subject’s face is covered or moves out from the frame. That is why Eye AF is a more reliable option since it locks focus on the eye of the subject, even if the subject moves back and forth or in and out of the frame. Eye AF is programmed to be flexible and helps you keep the subject in constant focus while shooting a video or clicking a photo.  Furthermore, Face AF tracks the T-bone of the face, which is not an optimal solution if you want accurate results, while Eye AF follows the subject eyes and keeps the subject in focus, making it a must-have feature for a premium smartphone.

vivo V20 will be first to bring this feature!

The upcoming vivo V20 is speculated to have a 44MP main front camera with Eye AF functionality, which can sharply focus on the subject from 15cms away and zoom out to infinity. This simply means that you will get great results when you click hand-held selfies or use a selfie stick. Eye AF feature will search for and find a human face in the frame and will then quickly lock focus on their eye so that you can get unrivalled focus and clarity. With this, vivo will be the first brand to bring this feature to its vivo V20 series in India.

vivo is all set to revolutionize the way we take selfies and use front cameras. The upcoming Eye AF will be a game-changer and a blessing for those who love to create content on-the-go. But that’s not all, the all new vivo V20 smartphone is also touted to be the slimmest phone of 2020. The phone will be just 7.38mm thin and will weigh 171 grams, making it one of the sleekest smartphones in its price range.

The smartphone will come with AG Matte Glass that adds a subtle feel of luxury to the phone, despite the affordable price tag. The company has also upped the game by using a chemical etching process that further refines the surface and makes it resistant to scratches. Then there is the AF coating that protects the phone from fingerprint smudges. With features like these, vivo V20 will be a design powerhouse in the mid-range segment like no other.

On top of the premium design, vivo V20 will come with top-of-the-line specifications, making it one of the most anticipated launch of 2020.  So, don’t miss the launch of the vivo V20 on 13th October.
