Vivo has launched a new budget smartphone in China, and similar to all budget Vivo phones, the new phone is placed under the Y series. The Vivo Y89 was launched in the Chinese market today and it could be launched in India in the coming months as well.
The Vivo Y89 has a 6.26-inch screen with 19:9 aspect ratio and a display notch, a dual-camera setup at the rear, a high-resolution front-facing camera, a fingerprint reader, an octa-core processor, storage expansion, dual-SIM card slot, and a 3260mAh battery. Sadly, the phone still runs Android 8.1 Oreo, even though it has been more than five months since the release of the Android 9 Pie. Let us have a detailed look at the specifications and pricing of the Vivo Y89.
Vivo Y89 Price
The Vivo Y89 is priced in China at CNY 1,598, which translates to INR 16,752. However, it is being sold at a MOP of CNY 1,396 (around INR 14,633). The phone is available in just one RAM and storage configuration. The Vivo Y89 is available in two color variants: Aurora Blue and Black Gold.
At this price, the Redmi Note 7 appears to be a much better phone, thanks to its Snapdragon 660 processor, 48MP+5MP dual-camera, 4000mAh battery, and a USB Type-C port with Quick Charge 4.0 functionality.
Vivo Y89 Features & Specifications
The Vivo Y89 features a glass-and-metal body with a fullscreen display at the front and a dual-camera setup as well as the fingerprint reader at the rear. The phone measures 154.81×75.03×7.89mm and weighs 149.3g. The Aurora Blue color has gradient color finish on the rear. The phone has a 6.26-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution (2280×1080 pixels) and a conventional notch. The notch hides within itself an earpiece, the front-facing camera, and the proximity and light sensors. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based Funtouch OS 4.0 software interface.
The Vivo Y89 uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor with 2.2GHz octa-core processor and Adreno 506 GPU. There’s 4GB RAM, 32GB internal storage space, and a microSD card slot (compatible up to 256GB microSD cards) for further storage space expansion. And yes, it has dedicated microSD and dual-SIM card slots. There’s a capacitive fingerprint reader at the rear for user authentication.
At the front, there’s a 16MP front-facing camera with fixed-focus lens and f/2.0 aperture. The rear-facing dual-camera setup consists of a 16MP primary sensor with autofocus and f/2.0 aperture and the 2MP secondary sensor with a fixed-focus lens and f/2.4 aperture. Both the front and the rear-facing cameras can record 1080p videos at 30fps. It’s a shame though that a phone priced as much as this can’t record 4K videos. Thanks to the dual-camera setup, the Vivo Y89 can capture images with a DSLR-like background blur effect (also known as bokeh or portrait effect).
In the connectivity department, the Vivo Y89 features a dual-SIM dual-4G LTE, A-GPS, BDS, GLONASS, dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, a microUSB 2.0 port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There’s a 3260mAh battery that’s powering the Vivo Y89 and it should last a whole day of normal usage. No fast charging technology has been mentioned on Vivo’s website, though. Other features include Face Unlock, AI-powered scene recognition and AI-powered Face Beauty mode.
