Vivo Y97 Leaked in a Hands-on Image Revealing Colors, Waterdrop Display Notch; Expected to Launch Soon

A Budget friendly alternative to the Vivo V11 Pro? The Vivo Y97 leaks with colour options and design.

Soon after unveiling its Vivo V11 Pro in India, the Chinese smartphone maker seems to be prepping up for yet another launch in its homeland. A popular industry tipster has posted a few hands-on images of the alleged smartphone, which according to popular belief will be called the Vivo Y97.

Externally, the alleged Vivo Y97 shares a lot in common with the recently launched Vivo V11 Pro. If, not for the larger footprint, all thanks to the slightly smaller display; it’s almost impossible to distinguish between the two smartphones. The Vivo Y97 features an all-glass exterior and comes in two color hues, blue and a light pink. Vivo may, however, end up launching a few other color hues for the smartphone later on, but we aren’t entirely sure about that.

Vivo Y97: Waterdrop Notch and In-Display Fingerprint Sensor

Talking of display, the Vivo Y97 is rumoured to come with a 6.3-inch Full HD+ (2,280 x 1,080p) Super AMOLED display. That said, the most interesting part about the display is the presence of a waterdrop shaped notch at the top. The implementation is similar to the ones seen on the Vivo V11 Pro, Oppo R17 Pro, and Oppo F9 Pro. Even, the upcoming OnePlus 6T is rumoured to come with a similar notch. The smaller notch up top results in an immersive multimedia experience, and hence the Vivo Y97 will be perfectly suitable for those who love to binge watch content on Netflix or Amazon Prime Video. It’s also worth noting that the smartphone is rumoured to come with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Vivo Y97: Specifications, Features

The Vivo Y97 is powered by an adequately powerful mid-range chip. Just in case, the leak turns out to be true, the Vivo Y97 may end up hitting stores with a Mediatek Helio P60 chip on the inside. It’s an octa-core chip that’s more than capable to undertake most of your daily activities. Apparently, the Realme 1 is also powered by a similar chipset. Besides, the mid-range Vivo device will also come with 4GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.

With every Vivo phone, the main highlighting feature has always been the camera, and it isn’t really different in the case of the alleged smartphone. The Vivo Y97 is expected to come with a dual rear camera setup. The unit comprises a 16MP primary and a 2MP secondary sensor. Additionally, the mid-range smartphone would come with a 16MP selfie snapper. Both the shooters, rear, and front, will be backed by a power-packed camera UI with the inclusion of a variety of modes and dedicated AI dependent features. Furthermore, the rear camera on the Vivo Y97 will also be equipped with a LED flash.

The Vivo Y97 will reportedly come with a 3,240mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than the one inside the V11 Pro. Then again, it is expected to last you through a day of use, especially considering Vivo’s excellent battery optimisation prowess. Other features of the Vivo Y97 include Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, 3.5mm headphone jack, A-GPS and a USB Type C port.

Vivo Y97: Launch Date, Expected Price

Vivo Y97 is expected to launch on September 20 at an event in China. Additionally, the mid-range Vivo smartphone is said to be priced at 1898 Yuan (Rs 19,998). This will make it cheaper than the Vivo V11 Pro, albeit with a slightly slower processor and a marginally smaller battery.
