As expected, the Vivo Z1 Pro has launched in India at a competitive price of INR 14,990. Offerings such as the Redmi Note 7 Pro (review) and OPPO F11 have already dominated this end of the market, and the Vivo Z1 Pro seems to be poised to take them on. The Redmi Note 7 Pro, in particular, is considered to be the budget king as it offers the most bang for your buck. Can Vivo’s latest offering dethrone the reigning champion? Let’s find out.
Vivo Z1 Pro vs Redmi Note 7 Pro vs OPPO F11: Price in India
As mentioned above, the Vivo Z1 Pro costs INR 14,990 for its base model that offers 4GB of RAM with 64 GB of storage. An upgrade to 6GB of RAM will set you back by INR 16,990. There is also a 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model that has been priced at INR 17,990.
The Redmi Note 7 Pro still costs INR 13,999 in India for its 4GB RAM + 64GB storage model. A 6GB RAM upgrade here costs INR 15,999. This phone also has a 6GB RAM + 128GB storage model that costs 16,999.
OPPO sells its F11 Pro in only one memory configuration with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. This phone costs INR 17,990.
Vivo Z1 Pro vs Redmi Note 7 Pro vs OPPO F11: Build Quality, Display
The most standout feature of the Vivo Z1 Pro is its punch-hole selfie camera located at the top left of the display that helps it feel less intrusive. At its price, this is the most affordable smartphone in the market to offer such a design. Both the Note 7 Pro and OPPO F11, on the other hand, come with the traditional waterdrop style notches in the middle of the top part of their screens. Another positive for the Z1 Pro is its use of a triple card tray, while the other two phones offer hybrid card slots.
When it comes to build quality, however, the Redmi Note 7 is still at the top thanks to its Gorilla Glass 5 rear panel. The Z1 Pro and F11, meanwhile, make use of glossy plastic rear panels. Another plus is the fact that the Note 7 Pro offers an IR emitter that can come certainly in handy if you ever lose your TV remote.
There isn’t much else of a difference in either of the phones when it comes to exterior aesthetics as all three offer gradient designs. Their displays are also largely comparable as all use LCD panels that measure upwards of 6-inches and offer Full HD+ resolutions.
Vivo Z1 Pro vs Redmi Note 7 Pro vs OPPO F11: Performance
The Vivo Z1 Pro comes powered by the relatively new Snapdragon 712 SoC, While the Redmi Note 7 Pro comes powered by the Snapdragon 675. Benchmark results show the Snapdragon 675 to perform better in CPU workloads, while the Snapdragon 712 performs better in GPU tasks. The performance differences in each case, however, is too marginal for one to come out on top. The OPPO F11 Pro’s Helio P70, on the other hand, is the weakest chipset in this comparison. But when it comes to software, the OPPO F11’s ColorOS 6 is perhaps the closest to stock-Android experience you can get among these smartphones. The Note 7 Pro’s MIUI 10 might be marginally more refined, but it has ads integrated into unremovable system applications that becomes bothersome. Then there is the Vivo Z1 Pro with its Funtouch 9 that is perhaps one of the heaviest skins made by a mainstream smartphone brand.
Vivo Z1 Pro vs Redmi Note 7 Pro vs OPPO F11: Camera
The Vivo Z1 Pro is the only phone here to offer a triple rear camera setup that is comprised of a 16MP + 8MP + 2MP setup. Both the Note 7 Pro and F11, meanwhile, offer 48MP + 5MP rear camera setups. While it might seem the triple camera setup of the Z1 Pro would be more versatile, our personal experience shows how poor the image quality is with each of those sensors. The Note 7 Pro and F11 should perform similarly when it comes to still imaging. Then again, the Note 7 Pro does come out ahead thanks to its support for 4K video recording.
The Z1 Pro does manage to redeem itself by offering impressive selfie quality with its large 32MP resolution front-facing camera. While the Note 7 Pro’s selfie camera isn’t bad, it does happen to be the smallest resolution sensor at 13MP. As for the OPPO F11, it sits comfortably in the middle with its 16MP selfie camera.
Vivo Z1 Pro vs Redmi Note 7 Pro vs OPPO F11: Battery Life
The Z1 Pro crushes the battery life showdown with its massive 5000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. The only drawback here is that it makes use of a microUSB charging port while Xiaomi has moved on to the USB Type-C standard with its Redmi Note 7 Pro. This phone also gets 18W fast charging, but only offers a 4000mAh battery. Then there is the OPPO F11 that gets a 4020Mah cell that also charges over microUSB and supports 20W fast charging.
Vivo Z1 Pro vs Redmi Note 7 Pro vs OPPO F11: Verdict
The Vivo Z1 Pro is indeed a good smartphone at its price, but it just barely misses out on grabbing the top spot due to minor setbacks. While it offers the best battery life, impressive raw performance, and a surprisingly good selfie camera, its poor rear camera performance, microUSB charging, annoying software, and INR 1,000 higher price prevent it from being better than the Redmi Note 7 Pro. If you want the best overall package at a lower price, Xiaomi’s offering is the way to go. If you can live with Vivo’s distracting UI and don’t care about rear camera performance, you can certainly go with the Vivo Z1 Pro. As for the OPPO F11 Pro, the competition has become too fierce, and its price is just too high for us to recommend.
