Apple’s AI push will result in cameras for future Apple Watch, as per Mark Gurman’s recent newsletter. This will enable access to its Visual Intelligence AI capability introduced with the iPhone 16 series. It is said that the watch will launch by 2027. Here’s all you need to know.
Apple Watch with Cameras
Gurman has revealed that the standard Apple Watch could have an in-display camera while the Ultra model could feature one placed next to the digital crown and side button.

This will allow people to access Visual Intelligence, which is backed by AI and uses the device’s camera to know about objects and places instantly, event details to a Calendar, and more. This, for now, requires third-party AI models like ChatGPT or Gemini but Apple may ditch them for its AI model in 2027.
In the former’s case, users will have to flip their wrists to identify an object for information, the latter case would require people to point the watch’s display to an object for the same.
Gurman suggests that Apple wants to make Visual Intelligence an important feature across its devices. The same functionality is expected to be available with future AirPods. These are also expected to support temperature sensing and heart rate monitoring, which will be quite interesting too. There are chances that both products will launch at the same time.
While the launch is expected to take place in 2027, Gurman emphasizes that this may depend on Apple’s AI team as its leadership has changed recently.
There’s no proper word on how the Apple Watch with cameras will function and whether or not this will become a reality. So, its best to take these details with a grain of salt and wait for details on the matter. We will keep you posted with further updates, so, stay tuned.
