Samsung Galaxy Ring, the company’s latest health-tracking device, is now official. As the name suggests, this is an easy-to-wear fitness tracker. The lightweight design targets consumers who are not fans of the bulky design of traditional smartwatches and fitness trackers. Let’s take a closer look at the Samsung Galaxy Ring, along with our hands-on images from the event in Paris.
Samsung Galaxy Ring: Design and Key Features
Samsung Galaxy Ring is designed for all-day wear. It’s lightweight and weighs only 2.3 grams to 3.0 grams, depending on the size. The Galaxy Ring will be available in sizes 5-13. It has a concave design with a Titanium finish and looks like a normal ring when worn.
It is available in three colours: Titanium Black, Silver, and Titanium Gold. According to Samsung, the titanium finish is only on the front. Underneath, the ring sports a transparent finish, hiding all its tracking sensors.
The Galaxy Ring charges with its included charging case, which works like a case for earbuds. It even has an LED status indicator to indicate the charging status. Samsung says a full charge will last for seven days.
The charging case comes in the box, and its size will also depend on the size of the Galaxy Ring. The charging case must be charged via a wireless charger sold separately.
Galaxy Ring has a water resistance rating of 100 meters, according to the ISO22810 standard (a test conducted with 5% salt water and 4ppm chlorine water), and traditional IP68 water resistance. These water resistance ratings indicate that Galaxy Ring can be used in pools and shallow oceans. It isn’t suitable for high-pressure activities like underwater diving.
Samsung Galaxy Ring works with only Samsung Galaxy devices and all Samsung Galaxy smartphones with Android 11.0 or above and a minimum of 1.5GB RAM. It syncs with the Samsung Health app (requires v6.27 or above and a Samsung account).
The Galaxy Ring’s features include a new sleep analysis powered by the sleep AI algorithm that gives users a Sleep Score to help better understand their sleep patterns. It tracks various sleep metrics like movement during sleep, sleep latency, and heart and respiratory rate. The Ring also comes with Cycle Tracking for better menstrual cycle tracking using overnight skin temperature monitoring.
The Galaxy Ring also supports various other features like Heart Rate Alert, which alerts via Samsung Health notification when it detects a higher heart rate. It also comes with a Live Heart Rate Check to give users additional details about their heart rate, including beats per minute, time start and duration. It will also give users an Energy score using the Galaxy AI. Samsung says this score is calculated using four factors: Sleep, Activity, Sleeping Heart Rate and Sleeping Heart Rate Variability.
Another interesting feature of Galaxy Ring is the support for Gestures, which can dismiss alarms on Galaxy phones via a double pinch gesture. It also has features such as Auto Workout Detection, Inactive Alert, Find My Ring and more.
