Rajasthan Government Distributing Free Phones with Jio, Airtel Connections

Rajasthan Government announced the distribution under the ‘Mukhyamantri Digital Seva Yojana’. The Ashok Gehlot led government will distribute the phones in the second week of December.

The project will cost Rs 12,000 crore. The free phones will be distributed to the women heads of 13.3 million families in Rajasthan who are enrolled under Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme.

Samsung and Nokia will distribute their phones in the state in three phases. Once the orders are placed, a letter of intent will be issued for distribution.

Besides free phones, the government will also provide access to free internet. Each user will get 20GB of data with unlimited voice calling each month for three years.

Reliance Jio and Airtel have been picked up to provide free internet. Jio will provide free internet to 60% of the free phone holders, whereas Airtel will fulfill the rest.

Samsung has picked the Galaxy A03 Core worth Rs 7,499 to distribute whereas Nokia is yet to decide on a phone, however, it will be a low-cost device.

Earlier this year, UP Government also distributed free smartphones and tablets among 1 crore students in the state.
