WhatsApp Audio Chat is the new feature of the Meta-owned instant messaging platform. The feature, first spotted by WABetaInfo, has appeared in the WhatsApp Beta update for Android. The latest feature will join the host of voice features offered by WhatsApp, like audio notes and calls. In another beta update, WhatsApp also introduced view once audio notes that can be only played once. Here are all details.

WhatsApp Audio Chat: A New Audio Feature Coming Soon

According to WABetaInfo, the audio chat option has been spotted in the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.7.12 update on the Google Play Store. The instant messaging platform is working on a new feature called audio chats, which will be available within chat conversations in a future update of the app. As you can see in the screenshot above, there will be a new ‘waveform’ icon in a future update of the app next to the video calling icon on the top.

Unfortunately, there needs to be more information on how exactly the new feature will work and how it differs from the existing voice calls and audio messages. However, with this feature, users can listen to the voice chat in real-time, like a walkie-talkie, with visualisation. We can see a red disconnect button with an empty space next to it. It is enough fodder to assume that there will be a real-time waveform visualisation of the audio while the user checks through their chats.

The audio chats feature is currently under development and restricted to beta users only. We expect the feature to roll out to stable users soon and have more details.

Notably, WhatsApp has also introduced another voice feature in the WhatsApp beta for the Android 2.23.7.8 update. As you can see in the screenshot above, WhatsApp will soon let you send view once audio messages. The platform already lets users send view-once images and videos. The recipient can view these files only once, and they cannot be forwarded, saved, or screengrabbed for privacy. There’s also speculation that apart from view-once audio, users will soon be able to send view-once text messages.

These features are intended to enhance the overall security and privacy of the platform. The view-once audio prevents the recipients from listening to it later and protects sensitive information that the audio note might contain.
