WhatsApp has been testing many new features that are currently available in beta. Some of the features being tested could be rolled out publicly in the coming days or weeks. The Meta-owned instant messaging app continues to explore new features, a couple of which have been spotted in the latest Android and iOS beta updates. The company was spotted testing and making improvements to the existing feature that lets users message themselves. The feature can be useful for those who want to use WhatsApp as a note-taking app for reminders.
The popular messaging app is also testing a new feature for group chats on both Android and iOS beta apps. WhatsApp is making a minor design change in its group chat user interface (UI) by testing the addition of profile photos of users. Let’s take a look at more details about the upcoming WhatsApp features spotted on Android and iOS beta apps.
WhatsApp Beta Update Adds Two New Features
WhatsApp has added two new features in its latest set of beta updates for Android and iOS. These features can be found in the Android beta app version 184.108.40.206. For iOS, the features can be found on the version update iOS 220.127.116.11.
The first feature spotted by WhatsApp features tracker website WABetaInfo is Message Yourself. As the name suggests, the feature will let users create a chat window that will allow them to save text or forward messages to themselves. Following the latest beta update, some beta testers noticed that WhatsApp is now highlighting that chat by adding “message yourself” as the chat caption. The change is minor as WhatsApp is only highlighting the chat with your own phone number by using a different caption.
Select beta testers have also noticed improved synchronisation of messages within the chat with their own phone numbers for some time. Users who send a message to the chat with their phone number will see the messages are always synced with your other linked devices since it is no longer an unsupported feature when using multi-device.
The chat with your phone number will also be available within your contacts list on the app. Therefore, it will be easier for users to find their own chat if they still do not have one in the chats list.
The messaging app is also working on bringing profile photos of group participants next to their chat bubbles. WABetaInfo stated that the feature has been in development for some time. It is currently available in the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS. The profile photo shows up ahead of the chat bubble. In case a user does not have any profile photo on WhatsApp, the app will show its default empty profile photo with the same colour as the contact name in that group.
Both features are currently being tested with select users in beta. If you are among the lucky few beta users, you are likely to see the features in the updated versions mentioned above. The report does not specify the exact time of the rollout of the two WhatsApp features. We will share more details about the same as and when available. If you are testing the new features, let us know your experience in the comments below.
