WhatsApp Web Screen Lock feature is now rolling out to select beta users worldwide. WABetaInfo reports that the feature is available only for a few beta users and will roll out to more users in the coming days. We can expect the screen lock functionality to come to a stable version soon. As the name suggests, the feature will allow users to lock the WhatsApp Web with a password, just like WhatsApp for Android and iOS. Here’s all you need to know about the new privacy feature for WhatsApp Web.
WhatsApp Web Users Will Soon Be Able to Password Protect Their Chats

As you can see above, once users have set the password for their WhatsApp Web, they will be shown the illustrated screen. It will tell the users that the Screen lock is on for the WhatsApp Web, and they need to enter the password to access the chat list. If the user forgets their password, they can click the Log Out button and link back to WhatsApp Web again.
It’s a useful feature for those who use WhatsApp Web but have to share their laptops or computers with family members or colleagues. The new feature will help them do so but keep their personal WhatsApp convo away from prying eyes.
Notably, WABetaInfo spotted the feature last year when it was under development. After a long testing and development phase, the security feature is finally rolling out to beta users. It should roll out to most beta users in the coming days and to stable users soon. Those who want to protect their chats from unauthorised access must sign up for the official WhatsApp beta program online.
How to Password Lock WhatsApp Web?
Users must be signed up for the WhatsApp Web Beta program to get and use the new feature. Below are the steps to turn on the WhatsApp Web screen lock feature on your computer.
- Open WhatsApp Web.
- Click on Settings.
- On the next page tap on Security.
- If available, you should see the Screen Lock option.
- Enter your desired password and select when WhatsApp Web will initiate a screen lock.
Once users have set up the screen lock feature, not only will their chats become protected, but WhatsApp Web will also not show notifications. It is a great feature to enhance security and privacy for WhatsApp Web users.
