How to Use Microsoft’s PC Health Check Tool to Find If Your Laptop or PC is Eligible for Windows 11 Upgrade

Microsoft gives you an option to check whether your existing Windows 10 laptop or PC is compatible with the upcoming Windows 11 or not. In order to do that, you can follow these steps to check the compatibility of your laptop or PC:

  1. Go to the Microsoft website and then click on Windows 11. Scroll down to the Check compatibility section and tap on the Download app. Alternatively, you can click on this link to download the app.
  2. Download and install the Microsoft PC Health Check app on your laptop or PC.
  3. Open the application and at the home page you will see a notification that says ‘Introducing Windows 11’. Click on the Check Now button.

If your laptop or PC will be compatible, you will see a message that says ‘This PC can run Windows 11’. Interestingly, the company has introduced the updated version of this application, which now states the reason why your PC is not compatible with Windows 11. If your PC or laptop is showing ‘This PC Can’t Run Windows 11’ then don’t get disheartened. The new Microsoft PC Health Check application list the reasons why your PC is not supported for the upcoming Windows 11 support. This will help you to identify the problem areas on your laptop or PC. However, you can enable PC Secure Boot and TPM in UEFI or BIOS settings and check it once again. You need to enable this from the settings and then you can once again check whether your PC or laptop is compatible or not. Here’s how you can enable Secure Boot and TPM:

  1. Shut down your laptop or PC and turn it back on.
  2. There will be a special key or button to access the BIOS or UEFI settings. Generally, it varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. So, for example, if you have an Acer laptop, you can press F2 at the boot to enter the UEFI or BIOS settings.
  3. Once you are into the Settings, navigate to Security and Enable TPM mode.
  4. Now go to the Boot option and then Enable Secure Boot option.
  5. Once done, you can select ‘save and exit’ and the PC will restart automatically.

You can once again open the PC Health Check application to see whether your PC is upgradable to Windows 11 or not.

Microsoft Says It is Updating Hardware Compatibility List

Still, if the app shows that your laptop or PC is not compatible, we suggest you should wait. Why? Because Microsoft has revealed that it will update its hardware compatibility list pretty soon. The company has said the list of hardware compatible devices is constantly being updated in the app. Furthermore, the Windows 11 update will only arrive at the end of the year, this may change until then. Simply put, the Redmond giant might make some changes in the hardware list closer to the official rollout of Windows 11.
