Xiaomi is ready with the second iteration of the Black Shark gaming smartphone. We expect the Black Shark 2 Android handset, designed to rival other popular devices, will launch today. Xiaomi hasn’t officially confirmed the launch yet, but several reports over the last few weeks, including a leaked poster, imply today’s launch. Incidentally, Xiaomi has setup a dedicated website for the Black Shark sub-brand.

Xiaomi Black Shark Android gaming smartphone is barely six months old. Moreover, the smartphone currently officially sells only in China. The Black Shark 2 smartphone has been making several rounds on the internet, and will sell in international markets.

We recently reported about a leaked Black Shark 2 teaser poster that suggested the handset would launch on October 23. And sure enough, Xiaomi Black Shark posted an official teaser that hinted the launch of the Black Shark 2 is in five days.

Black Shark now has a dedicated international website in English. This clearly indicates Xiaomi intends to launch the gaming Android smartphone in several international markets. Perhaps the company may start selling the handset in several regions simultaneously.

Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Specifications, Features

The TENAA’s listing, which mentioned model number AWM-A0, implies we won’t be seeing anything radically new in the hardware. As far as vital components are concerned, the Black Shark 2 has the same core internals as the first edition. It packs the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. However, Xiaomi has thrown in some cosmetic and gaming-centric design elements. TENAA’s images showed a rear fingerprint scanner, and a vertical dual camera setup. Meanwhile, a leaked video showed three glowing RGB lights, two of which were on the left and right edges of the display.

The listing further reveals the smartphone features a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. The display will be optimized for gaming with features like DCI-P3 and color gamut of up to 97 percent.

The Snapdragon 845 SoC will work with Adreno 630 GPU. Considering the target market, the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 may feature a dedicated liquid cooling tech similar to the Asus ROG Phone. The smartphone is rumored to pack as much as 8GB of RAM.

A large 4,000mAh battery supported by Fast Charging, and other features, should offer long gaming sessions. Interestingly, the first generation Black Shark smartphone featured a front-mounted fingerprint scanner. The listing also mentions the handset measures 160 x 75.26 x 8.7 mm.

Black Shark 2 Launch Date, Pricing

A poster teaser of the Black Shark device confirmed the launch date of the new phone. However it didn’t reveal any other details. Moreover, the poster doesn’t specifically mention the name of the smartphone.

The dedicated Black Shark website is accepting registrations and is allowing people from all around the globe. Strangely, there have been no promotions or even official acknowledgement from Xiaomi about the Black Shark 2. Still, the Chinese smartphone company would surely launch a revamped edition for internal markets.

The first generation Xiaomi Black Shark gaming smartphone cost CNY 2,999 (Rs. 32,000 approx.) in China for the 6GB RAM variant. The 8GB RAM variant cost CNY 3,499 (Rs. 37,000 approx.) at launch. We expect the Black Shark 2 to sport a very similar pricing. At this cost, it will an amazing Android gaming smartphone to rival premium devices like the Razer Phone 2Asus ROG Phone that are quite expensive.
