Xiaomi Black Shark 2

Xiaomi’s Black Shark 2 made its debut in China on 18th March, and the device has now finally reached India. The brand has launched the Black Shark 2 smartphone in India today at an event in New Delhi. The Black Shark 2 is a gaming-oriented smartphone, and it packs a few features that enhance the gaming experience. Let us quickly have a look at Black Shark 2’s variants, price in India, sale date, launch offers, and specifications.

Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Variants, Price in India, Sale Date, Launch Offers

Xiaomi has launched the Black Shark 2 in India in two variants. The first variant has 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, and it costs INR 39,999. The second variant has 12GB RAM + 256GB storage, and it costs INR 49,999. The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 will go on sale starting 12 PM on 4th June exclusively from Flipkart. Unfortunately, there are no launch offers with the Black Shark 2.

Xiaomi Black Shark 2 Specifications

The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 has a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with Full HD+ resolution. There is no notch on display, meaning that you won’t have that ugly cut-out on the screen obstructing the gameplay that you find on most other smartphones. The display comes with HDR, and it also features 240Hz touch refresh rate for faster touch response in gaming. The brand hasn’t yet confirmed what kind of display protection does the Black Shark 2 feature.

The Black Shark 2 comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, which has an octa-core CPU (4 big cores + 4 small cores), and Adreno 640 GPU. The main issue with many smartphones (especially the ones with powerful processor) is that the device heats up when you play heavy games, due to which the performance gets throttled, and you get choppy frame rate in the game, resulting in a frustrating gaming experience. Well, to counter this issue, Xiaomi has equipped the Black Shark 2 with larger and thicker copper plates compared to the ones in most other high-end smartphones. It helps in dissipating the heat faster, and thus the device does not throttle as much, due to which, you get a higher frame rate. And this results in a smoother gaming experience. Xiaomi is calling this Liquid Cool 3.0.

Speaking of gaming experience, the device has Shark Space app, which not only shows all your games in one place, but it also offers performance tuning of the device, such as, adjusting CPU and GPU performance. There is also a Ludicrous mode built-in that will free-up resources so that all of those resources can be allocated to the game for a smoother gaming experience. The brand has also showcased a few gaming accessories, such as Gamepad, Gamepad Stand, and Cooling Case. However, the brand has not confirmed if those accessories will be available to purchase in India. Enough with gaming. Let’s move on to the imaging on the device.

The Black Shark 2 has two cameras at the back – a 48MP primary sensor with a conventional field of view, and a 13MP telephoto camera. At the front, the device has a 20MP camera. Unfortunately, the rear camera does not support 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, even though the chipset offers 4K60FPS video recording. In my opinion, this could be a huge bummer for some.

The Black Shark 2 features a 4000mAh battery. The device also features a 27W charging, which is higher than most smartphones on the market. That being said, OnePlus 7 Pro is still leading the segment with its 30W WARP fast charging. Other features on the Black Shark 2 include stereo speakers, dual-SIM with dual-VoLTE, USB Type-C port, and an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Black Shark 2 Lacks 3.5mm Audio Jack

Although Xiaomi says that the Black Shark 2 is a gaming smartphone, the brand hasn’t equipped it with a 3.5mm audio jack. So, I am a bit confused here. This is not a real gaming smartphone then. If you are considering to buy this device for the sole purpose of gaming, you should consider the lack of 3.5mm audio jack.
