Xiaomi known for its excellent budget phones also owns a gaming phone brand Black Shark. It designs and develops handsets with a focus on gaming performance. With the rising popularity of competitive games such as PUBG Mobile and Fortnite, the Chinese brand has decided to unveil the Black Shark 2 Pro smartphone. Named after the lethal torpedo used in submarines, the new phone looks like a performance beast on paper. For starters, it is powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset. Qualcomm has tuned this chip for gaming, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, and Artificial Intelligence applications. Compared to the standard Snapdragon 855 SoC (System on Chip), the Plus version comes with a slightly higher clock speed peaking at 2.96 GHz. Its GPU Adreno 640 GPU is said to squeeze in 15 percent performance gain in gaming.
To pull off sustained performance, the phone is equipped with the Liquid Cooling 3.0 + technology. This setup includes a large liquid-cooled plate and high-efficiency heat-conducting copper plate for wider coverage of heat-dissipation area. Black Shark has also slapped on enough RGB LEDs to please the gamers. In addition to the glowing Black Shark logo in the middle, the Black Shark 2 Pro has two new RGB strips on either side. The Black Shark 2 Pro features a 6.4-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution. The AMOLED screen is ideal for gaming thanks to its ability to deliver punchy colors and true blacks. On top of that, the Black Shark 2 Pro’s display comes with the Pixelworks Iris visual processor. It comprises of the California based company’s MotionEngine known for getting rid of the unintended judder and blur from moving images. It also comes with Always-HDR mode, which converts SDR feed to HDR in real-time. Plus, there’s True View tech that adapts the display for optimal viewing as per the surrounding conditions. The display is also integrated with a fingerprint sensor.
The phone’s Snapdragon 855 chip is coupled with 12 GB RAM. The handset comes in 128 GB and 256 GB internal storage options. Moving onto the photography part, you get a dual-camera setup comprising of a 48 MP primary Sony IMX586 sensor accompanied by a 12 MP telephoto lens. The latter will deliver up to 2X lossless optical zoom. The primary camera can record 4K videos at 60 fps. For selfies, you get a 20 MP front-facing camera.
On the connectivity front, you get dual SIM support with 4G VoLTE. The phone covers dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, A-GPS, and a USB Type-C port. It houses a 4,000 mAh battery with 27 W fast-charging support. Coming to the subject of software, the Black Shark 2 Pro ships with Android 9.0 Pie. The UI looks clean as stock UI with a few enhancements from the Chinese manufacturer.
Black Shark 2 Pro Pricing And Availability
The Black Shark 2 Pro is now up for pre-order in China. It will start shipping from August 2. At the release, the phone will be available in two variants. The first one with 128 GB internal storage is priced at 2999 yuan, which roughly translates to Rs 30,000. For the top variant with 256 GB storage, you will have to spend 3,499 yuan (Approx. Rs 35,000).
