Xiaomi Black Shark Gaming Smartphone Set to Launch Soon in India as Company Sets Up HQ in Bengaluru

Xiaomi-backed gaming smartphone brand, Black Shark, is officially starting operations in India. Headquartered in Bengaluru, it will be headed by David Li, VP of Black Shark Global. Li will also be managing operations in India while Chirag Nagendra (former OnePlus communications head) will take care of the brand building and communications strategy as India Marketing Head for Black Shark. This development also paves the way for Black Shark gaming smartphone debuting in India.

Xiaomi BlackShark to Launch in India Soon

In a press release circulated by Xiaomi, the company has announced that the Black Shark phone will soon be making an official entry in the Indian smartphone market. Alongside, the company is expected to launch gaming peripherals like Gamepad 2.0 controller as well. To recall, the Xiaomi Black Shark phone was first launched in China in April 2018 followed by its debut in the UK and Europe in November 2018. We also witnessed the launch of Black Shark Helo smartphone in October 2018 with enhanced specs.

Some of the recent reports have hinted that Black Shark and Xiaomi are working on another gaming smartphone dubbed Black Shark 2 that might feature a Snapdragon 855 SoC with 8GB of RAM. Now that Black Shark is starting operations in India, we may very well expect the existing and upcoming phones to eventually launch too.

Xiaomi Black Shark Specifications, Features

The Xiaomi Black Shark packs a 5.99-inch full-HD+ display at 1080×2160 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC powers the phone paired with Adreno 630 GPU, 6GB/8GB of RAM, and 64GB/128GB internal storage. For optics, the Xiaomi Black Shark has a 20MP+12MP dual camera setup on the rear with LED flash and a 20MP front camera. A 4,000mAh battery backs the phone with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support. It supports connectivity options including 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, AGPS, and Glonass. The phone measures 161.62×75.4×9.25mm and weigh 190 grams.

Similar to the first gaming smartphone, the Razer Phone, Xiaomi’s Black Shark is also adorned with Green and Black design aesthetics on the sides and rear. Xiaomi also introduced a gaming controller alongside the phone, which makes the gaming experience even better on the Black Shark smartphone. The controller for the Black Shark phone features a joystick and a trigger button.

Coming to the pricing of the Black Shark phone and the controller, the phone was launched at CNY 2,999 (approx INR 31,100) in China for the 6GB RAM variant and at CNY 3,499 (approx. INR 36,300) for the premium 8GB RAM model. The controller was priced at CNY 179 (approx. INR 1,900). It’s worth noting that Xiaomi sells the controller independently and it does not come complimentary with the phone.
