Xiaomi is working on a new foldable smartphone. The company launched the Mix Fold earlier this year in China. The foldable smartphone is similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 mechanism. It is yet to get officially launched outside China at the moment. Meanwhile, a clamshell folding smartphone from the Chinese smartphone tech giant is in the works. Images of the upcoming foldable phone under the application number 2020301357510 were spotted on the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). While the images do not reveal the name of the device or its specs, we do get an idea about the features and other key elements of the Xiaomi foldable. Let’s take a look at the Xiaomi Flip phone patent images, features and other details revealed online.
Xiaomi flip phone patent
Xiaomi has filed a new patent on the CNIPA for a flip phone with a foldable display. The folding mechanism seems similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3. Xiaomi has not officially confirmed any details about the flip-style foldable smartphone at the time of writing this. While we wait for that, let’s check what the images reveal about the flip phone.
On the outside, the Xiaomi flip smartphone has a rectangular island. It houses a tiny screen and a dual-camera setup. Above the camera module (when folded), there is a cutout, which is likely for the LED flash.
Upon unfolding the smartphone, there is a tall display. We currently do not have the details of the screen size. What we do know is that there is a pill-shaped cutout at the top left corner. It could house a dual-front camera setup. The screen has thick bezels around it. On the right side of the frame are the power and volume keys.
The bottom edge houses the USB Type-C port, a speaker grille and the SIM tray. The left and top edges are flush and do not house any ports or buttons. Other details of the flip phone remain unknown. We will share more details as and when available. The Xiaomi flip phone could launch next year with a competitive price to take on the Samsung Z Flip series. As mentioned above, there are no official details on the same.
