Xiaomi has now rolled out a stable MIUI 10 based ROM for its Mi 8 flagship. The all-new ROM is based on Google’s latest Android Pie 9.0. It comes a week after Xiaomi released the China-specific ROM for the smartphone. That said, the Global MIUI 10 based Android Pie ROM for the Xiaomi Mi 8 is a Beta build, with no words regarding the rollout of the Stable version as of yet.

MIUI 10, as many would be aware, is the latest and greatest version of the customized UI from Xiaomi. It was first released in May this year and thereafter has gradually rolled out to a number of Xiaomi smartphones globally and in China. Recently, the Xiaomi Redmi Y2 started receiving the MIUI 10 based software update in India. Xiaomi has also laid out a time frame for pushing the MIUI 10 upgrade to its range of devices.

Xiaomi Mi 8: Finally Receiving Global MIUI 10 8.9.11 Beta Update

The latest global MIUI 10 8.9.11 beta update for the Xiaomi Mi 8 is based on Android Pie 9. This makes it one of the first Xiaomi phones to receive the all-new version of Android. Previously, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S received Android Pie 9.0 beta earlier this year alongside the new Pixel phones. Just last week Xiaomi rolled out an Android 9.0 based stable build of MIUI 9 for a range of smartphones in China which includes the Mi 8, Mi 8 Explorer, Mi Mix 2S, Redmi 6 Pro, Mi Note 2 and the last but not the least, the Mi 6X. The rest of Xiaomi devices which are currently receiving the MIUI 10 update globally are still based on Android Oreo 8.1.

Xiaomi Mi 8: How to Experience Android 9.0 Based Global MIUI 10 Beta ROM?

Only Xiaomi Mi 8 users who are currently running a Beta build of an older version of MIUI are eligible to receive the OTA update. Those who aren’t willing to wait can also download the recovery file and directly flash it on their device. That said, users on the stable ROM won’t be to upgrade their phone to the Android 9.0 yet. Xiaomi is yet to upload the fastboot file for the ROM, which is apparently needed to flash it on devices currently running a stable build of MIUI.

The rollout of the global build of the MIUI 10 for the Xiaomi Mi 8 comes as a pleasant surprise to hundreds of international consumers, who were using the China build of the ROM by sideloading Google Play services just to use the new feature of the latest version of MIUI.

MIUI 10: Top New Features

The all-new MIUI 10 comes with a hoard of new features. One of the most highlighting features of the new interface is the support for portrait mode selfies. It’s a software-based implementation that has been built to dual-camera like portrait mode experience to single camera devices.

Another area of improvement in the MIUI 10 is the recent menu. It now comes with a complete redesign and has been specifically built for 18:9 displays. The recent menu now offers a vertically scrolling list of running apps, thereby giving it a much cleaner and intuitive design. Other UI tweaks include redesigned volume and brightness sliders, nature-inspired notifications and overall increased responsiveness.

It is still unknown when Xiaomi will start pushing the stable build. The company recently launched its new sub-brand POCO in India, with Poco F1 as its first smartphone. You can check out its review below.
