Update: The Mi 8 Pro has now been certified by the Wi-Fi Alliance as well with the same M1807E8A model number. According to the Wi-Fi Alliance listing, the Mi 8 Pro supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 10 currently. It also reconfirms the Mi 8 Pro marketing name.

A variant of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition carrying the model number M1807E8A had been spotted on the TENAA website in July this year. Back then, it was speculated that the device could launch as the Mi Note 4. The same model number was spotted on the official website of Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) earlier this month as the Mi 8 Pro. It has now been certified by the Bluetooth SIG as well.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro: Bluetooth Certification Granted

The Xiaomi M1807E8A Bluetooth certification confirms the smartphone will be marketed as the Mi 8 Pro. Apart from its marketing name, the Bluetooth certification also reveals the smartphone comes with Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy support and runs on Xiaomi’s latest MIUI 10 software. Now that the smartphone has been certified by two certification agencies outside China, it does seem highly likely that the Mi 8 Explorer Edition will be making its global debut very soon as the Mi 8 Pro.

Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro: Specifications, Features

As revealed by the smartphone’s TENAA listing, the Mi 8 Pro will be very similar to the Mi 8 Explorer Edition in terms of hardware specifications. It sports a 6.21-inch Super AMOLED display with 1080 x 2248 Full HD+ resolution, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The Mi 8 Pro runs on Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor clocked at up to 2.8 GHz with an Adreno 630 GPU. In the memory department, however, the Mi 8 Pro is slightly different compared to the Mi 8 Explorer Edition. The Mi 8 Pro is expected to be available in three memory configurations – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, 6GB RAM + 128GB storage, and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage.

As for the imaging hardware, the Mi 8 Pro features dual 12MP cameras on the back and a 20MP selfie snapper on the front. However, unlike the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, the Mi 8 Pro will not come with 3D facial recognition technology. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, NFC, USB Type-C port, and 4G VoLTE. The battery capacity is also expected to be identical to the Mi 8 Explorer Edition at 3000mAh.
