Xiaomi Mi 8 SE Receives Temporary Price Cut in China; Now Cheaper than Mi 8 Lite

A Weibo account revealed some massive price drop on the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE model, and this temporary price cut means the smartphone is currently cheaper than the Mi 8 Lite


Xiaomi is set to follow up on their recent release of the Mi 6 series of smartphones with the series-8 phones in India. The 9-series is already available in China and other parts of the world, but the Chinese brand is yet to release the series in India. The 8-series includes Xiaomi’s flagship device, the Mi 8, the Mi 8 Lite – a mid-range/budget edition and the slightly high-end model; the Mi 8 SE. Xiaomi is expected to release the smartphones in India in two phases. The Mi 8 and Mi 8 Lite smartphones will be released on October 16 while the Mi 8 SE’s expected release could happen on October 30 with a price tag of Rs. 29,999.

Xiaomi Mi 8 SE gets a massive price drop in China

The Mi 8 SE is the smartphone that has come in the news through Chinese microblogging site, Weibo account in China that reveals some exciting details. A Weibo account post reveals a massive price drop that the device has got in China although, this is only meant for a limited period. What’s interesting is the amount quoted for the two variants the smartphone comes in.

The 4GB+64GB variant will now be temporarily available for CNY 1,599 which roughly converts to Rs.17,200 (approx), while the 6GB+64GB variant will now cost CNY 1,699, which is about Rs.18,300 (approx).

This is a massive price drop, considering the Mi 8 SE was initially priced at CNY 1,999 for the 6GB+64GB model. It’s not the first instance, as earlier in August, the Mi 8 SE and other models received a price drop, although, only for CNY 100 from its price of CNY 1,999. Now that both the variants are available at a much lower cost in China, it’s interesting to compare its prices with the Mi 8 Lite.

With the massive price drops in China for the Mi 8 SE, let us compare the temporary price to the current rate of the Mi 8 Lite. The Mi 8 Lite sells for CNY 1,399 for the 4GB+64GB model, while the 6GB+64GB variant is available for CNY 1,999. Considering those prices, its safe to assume that the currently slashed prices of the Mi 8 SE, the 6GB+64GB model is much lower than the same variant of the Mi 8 Lite. That said, if you are in China an were interested in buying the Mi 8 Lite, it’s better to go for the much more powerful and feature-packed Mi SE edition.
