Google released Android 9.0 Pie several months back, and it took some time for non-Pixel smartphones to pick up this latest version of Android. Chinese OEMs have not been very quick in picking the update for their fair chunk of devices, but they are getting there gradually. In our latest findings, we have stumbled upon a Geekbench listing for Xiaomi’s Mi 8 UD aka Mi 8 Pro Screen Fingerprint Edition running Android 9.0 Pie. As Xiaomi phones run MIUI, it is going to be Android Pie-based MIUI 10. For those unaware, the Mi 8 UD edition comes with In-display fingerprint sensor. Other than China, it is available in Taiwan.
Well, it is not surprising to see Mi 8 UD making a debut on Geekbench with Android 9.0 Pie. Other phones in the Mi 8 lineup such as Mi 8 SE, Mi 8 have already been teased by Xiaomi to receive Android Pie-based MIUI 10 update soon. Now, with the Geekbench listing surfacing for the Mi 8 UD, we can expect it to get the update soon. The listing has the upload date of November 1, 2018, which means Xiaomi is testing the build. For now, we do not have any information regarding its rollout.
As none of the Mi 8 phones have been announced in India yet, this update is for the Chinese variant. Concerning the functioning of Android 9.0 Pie on the Mi 8 UD, it will be nothing like stock Android as Xiaomi overlays its custom UX over it. Of course, Xiaomi fans have unparalleled admiration for the MIUI, but stock Android lovers find it overbearing. We can expect Android Pie-based MIUI 10 to come with some nifty features and enhanced performance. The Mi Mix 2S and the Mi Max 3 have already started receiving Android Pie update in China.
Xiaomi has bundled its flagship under the first tier list of MIUI 10 rollout. It means that the other Xiaomi phones should expect the update to arrive sometime next year. As for the Mi 8 series launch in India, Xiaomi has been keeping mum about it for quite some time. We wonder if the company has any plans of launching the phones in India at all. If it does, then we will be reporting it right away.
