Xiaomi Mi A2 Price Cut

Xiaomi’s High5

The Mi A2’s price cut announcement is a part of the brand’s ongoing High5 occasion. For those who don’t know, Xiaomi, on Friday, tweeted with High5 hashtag, that it will make five key announcements starting from 7th January 2018 to celebrate three things; their fifth year in India, five years of breaking records, and fifth consecutive quarter of being number one smartphone brand in India. The announcement of Mi A2’s price cut is the first announcement among the five. There are still four announcements to go. I think, most probably other four announcements will also be related to the price cut of other Xiaomi smartphones.

Xiaomi Mi A2 vs. Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro vs. Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro

With the discounted price, the Mi A2 now costs same as the brand’s other two smartphones, the Redmi Note 6 Pro and the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Clearly, the same pricing of these three smartphones makes it confusing for the consumer to decide which smartphone to buy.

In my opinion, the Redmi Note 5 Pro (review) should be out of the equation, as the Redmi Note 6 Pro offers more features at the same price. Now between the Redmi Note 6 Pro and the Mi A2 (review), the Mi A2 has a more powerful processor, a better camera, and higher storage capacity than the Redmi Note 6 Pro, whereas, the Redmi Note 6 Pro has a better battery backup than the Mi A2. The Redmi Note 6 Pro also comes with a 3.5mm audio jack that the Mi A2 lacks. So, if you prefer having a 3.5mm audio jack and a better battery backup over the faster processor and better camera then go with the Redmi Note 6 Pro, or else, the Mi A2 should be your choice.

Xiaomi Mi A2

The Xiaomi Mi A2 launched in India on 8th August 2018. At the time of launch, Xiaomi launched the Mi A2 in only 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, and it had a price tag of INR 16,999. Later on, the brand launched the 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant of the device with a price tag of INR 19,999. The Xiaomi Mi A2 is an excellent smartphone in terms of performance and imaging. However, the device lacks a 3.5mm audio jack, and it also has a smaller battery capacity than the similarly priced Redmi Note 6 Pro. Therefore, the Mi A2 is not selling well. The lower sales of the device is also one of the main reason that the brand has dropped its price.
