Xiaomi announced it’s second generation of Android One handsets back in July. And this time, it was two, not one. The company had earlier promised an even more affordable Android One handset earlier and it made good of that promise by announcing a Mi A2 Lite along with a Mi A1 successor. Both the handsets came with Android Oreo out of the box. Now, the Mi A2 Lite has popped up on Geekbench with Android 9.0 Pie even as the Mi A2 itself hasn’t yet received any stable Android Pie yet.

This is the first such spotting of the Mi A2 Lite but it seems Xiaomi has started testing the update on the handset. The company did promise Android Pie before the end of 2018 on the Mi A2. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Mi A2 Lite gets it around the same time frame. As a matter of fact, the Mi A1 received a speedy Android Oreo update last year as promised by the company. Also, the company has delivered the kernel source code a month after the launch of the Mi A2 Lite which means it is learning its lessons from history. The handset also received official TWRP support recently making it easier for modders to tinker with the notched device.

Sadly though, the Mi A2 Lite hasn’t been announced in India. Xiaomi instead released the Redmi 6 Pro instead which has the exact same hardware but runs the company’s own custom skin MIUI on top of Android. Android Pie will bring some great features for Mi A2 Lite users including gestures, a new quick settings panel, better performance, Digital Wellbeing, adaptive battery and brightness settings and more.

As far as specs are concerned, the Mi A2 Lite features its trusted Snapdragon 625 SoC. Its display is a 5.84-inch 1080p panel sporting a notch and pixel density of 432ppi. The handset has the same dual rear camera setup as the Redmi Note 5 Pro but has a much weaker 5MP front shooter. Powering all that is a beefy 4,000mAh battery that can easily get users through a day. The Geekbench listing means that we could see Android Pie update land on the Mi A2 Lite soon.
