While the device has been announced in China, Xiaomi’s immense popularity in the Indian market means that we can expect the Mi Band 5 coming here as well.

In China, the Mi Band 5 has been priced at CNY 189 which is about Rs 2,000. There also happens to an NFC version of the device which happens to be priced at CNY 229 which is about Rs 2,500. The sale for the Mi band 5 will start from June 18 in China.

The Mi Band 5 now has a 1.2-inch OLED display which happens to be 20 percent bigger than the one seen on the Mi Band 4. Like the Mi Band 4, this next iteration also has the option for customisable watch faces such as characters from popular animated series such as Spongebob and more. The watch faces will also get matching bands as well. The display itself is said to be brighter and has support for more colours than the predecessor.
There happens to be a new magnetic charging system for the Mi Band 5, wherein the device has two electrodes sticking from the bottom and they snap in place with the charging dock. This system, will, however, not be backwards compatible with other devices. The NFC feature has been added and it will be sold as a separate variant of the Mi Band 5. This means that the device will be able to use contactless payments like the previous versions. The Mi Band 5 has a voice assistant support for Xiaomi’s own XiaoAI assistant but it is said to be getting support for Amazon Alexa soon as well.
Xiaomi has said that the Mi Band 5 comes with an improved processor and more accurate tracking. Female users of the device can also track their menstrual cycles with the smart band. Apart from that, you get the usual features of sleep tracking, heart beat monitoring along with a PAI (Personal Activity Intelligence) score for your fitness activities. The Mi Band 5 also has a Barometer which can be used to check the altitude you are present and at. Other functionalities of the device include using it as a remote shutter button for taking images.
