Xiaomi is all geared up to launch the Mi CC9 Pro and its first-ever smartwatch on November 5. On top of these two devices, the company will also launch the fifth generation of its TVs. Now, courtesy of a slew of official posts by the company on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo, we know pretty much everything about the Mi TV 5.

Xiaomi Mi TV 5 – specifications and features

OnePlus shook the smart TV ecosystem by launching the OnePlus Q1 series of smart TVs. Clearly, that has left the competitors with no choice but to up their game and Xiaomi appears to be doing just the same with the Mi TV 5 which is coming up just after 2 months of the Mi TV 4.

Starting things off with the brains behind the Mi TV 5, we will get to see an Amlogic T972 chip powering the Mi TV 5. The chipset will be coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

The Amlogic T972 SoC (clocked at 1.9GHz) is based on a 12nm manufacturing process and will offer a whopping 63 percent performance improvement over the last-generation chipset. Making use of an Amlogic T972 chipset also means that the Mi TV 5 will have support for 8K video playback. Just for a reference, the chipset found on the recently launched OnePlus TV series is a 1.5GHz A53-based MediaTek chipset. Clearly, the Mi TV 5 will give a strong competition to the OnePlus TV Q1 and OnePlus TV Q1 Pro.

That said, it is not clear as to whether or not all the models in the Mi TV 5 series will make use of the same chipset. The chances of that happening are unlikely as there might be a low-end variant making use of the previous generation chipsets.

Moving on to the display of the television, the Mi TV 5 will feature a 4K QLED panel. As a matter of fact, the Mi TV 5 will be the first TV from Xiaomi to sport a QLED panel as the previous generation of the Mi TVs either had an LCD or an LED display. The company has further confirmed that the Mi TV 5 panel will be a Samsung’s Quantum Dot panel which will have 108% of the NTSC color gamut.

Adding to that, the Mi TV 5 will feature MEMC (Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation) technology for smoother motion while watching. Moreover, the Mi TV 5 will support HDR10+.

In another teased, the company has showcased the thickness (or thinness) of the Mi TV 5.

As of now, this is all we know about Mi TV 5, but we don’t have to wait for too long as the launch date is just a couple of days away.

We might get to see some announcements about the Indian launch of the TV in the coming weeks.
