Xiaomi will launch a bunch of devices including the Mi CC9 Pro and the Mi TV 5 on November 5. On top of these two, the company is working on launching its first-ever smartwatch as well. Contrary to the earlier assumption that the Mi Watch will run on WearOS, the company has taken all of us by surprise by revealing that it will indeed run on MIUI for Watch – a custom MIUI for the smartwatch ecosystem.
The company has left almost nothing to guess and has been quite active to promote the Mi Watch via its official handle on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo.
Mi Watch and MIUI – Color Variants, Features, and Design
The reason as to why this has come as a surprise arises from the fact that the Mi Watch will make use of a Qualcomm chipset, but that is certainly not the case here.
Starting things off with MIUI for Watch, here is a quick video showcasing the same.
This also means that the Mi Watch would most likely not come shipped with Google Play Store. Thankfully enough, the company has already thought of it and the Mi Watch will have its own app store.
Adding to this, the company has posted a slew of posters depicting the features the Mi Watch is going to possess and the watch is indeed turning out to be impressive.
For instance, the company has clearly focused a lot on providing an excellent battery life and aims to kill the competition with this. Furthermore, the Mi Watch will have GPS, NFC for making online payments, health tracking, notifications alerts, music playback, e-SIM card support, FM radio, and pretty much all the features an ideal smartwatch should have.
To add to this, Mi Watch will have integrated support from services like QQ Chat and QQ Music.
As far as the color variants are concerned, we will be getting three color variants of the Mi Watch – Black, White, and Blue.
As seen from the image above, there will be a total of two buttons on the right side of the crown – one power/back button and one for traversing through the watch interface. On the left side, we can see a small speaker grille and a microphone. We are not sure as to what kind of a charger we will be getting with the Mi Watch as of now, because the company has not talked about the charging capability of the watch so far.
All in all, the Mi Watch is a standalone gadget and the company has made sure that you won’t have to carry a smartphone with you in order to make use of it. As a matter of fact, Xiaomi has been pretty vocal about it on Weibo.
As of now, this is all we know about the Mi Watch, but we are sure to receive further intel on the same in the coming days as the launch date is not that far away.
