Xiaomi MiUI 13 Launched: Here are all the new features

The Xiaomi MiUI 13 was launched in China today, and is expected to come to the Mi 11 Series, Redmi K40 and more as well.

Smartphone maker Xiaomi has unveiled the newest version of its custom user interface (UI) — MiUI 13. The new software was launched alongside the Xiaomi 12 smartphone in China, and will make it to the company’s other devices soon enough. It is based on the Android 12 platform from Google, and brings various optimizations and changes to how Xiaomi’s platform works. The new version of the software also includes a font called Mi Sans that will help give the platform a new look and feel to some extent. The company also said that the software improves privacy and security on your device.

Xiaomi MiUI 13 features

The company’s launch event in China is still ongoing, so some of the details are yet to be found. However, what we know so far is that Xiaomi says that the new software will make devices 52% smoother than the preceding MiUI 12.5 software. The update will also add widgets to the platform, and a new energy saving mode and RAM booster that will help increase performance of the device, at least on paper.

Further, the UI will also allow users to select a specific colour theme for your device, which will be applied to widgets, menus and more. The background colour can also change dynamically based on an image that is opened on the screen, which is a clear sign that Xiaomi is leveraging Google’s material design system from Android as well.

The company also announced a version of the software for tablets, called MiUI 13 Pad, which looks a lot like Apple’s iPadOS operating system. Like Apple’s erstwhile Force Touch feature, tapping and holding onto an app icon reveals some quick actions on MiUI 13 Pad as well. And like the smartphone version of the software, MiUI 13 Pad will also have specific security improvements for tablets.

Which phones will get MiUI 13?

According to a Twitter post, the MiUI 13 software will come on the Xiaomi 12 Pro, Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 11 Pro, Xiaomi 11 Ultra, and the Xiaomi 11. The 11 Series is sold in India under the Mi 11 branding. Reports have said that the software will also roll out to the Mi Mix 4, the Mi 11 Ultra, the Mi 11 Pro and the Redmi K40 series. The Xiaomi Mi Pad Pro 5G , the Mi Pad 5 Pro and the Mi Pad 5 will also get the new software.
