Xiaomi Patent Reveals a Mi MIX Alpha-Like Surround Display in Works, but With Pop-up Cameras

The patent images revealed that the smartphone will house a mechanized pop-up camera.

Xiaomi unveiled the Mi MIX Alpha and surprised the rest of the world with its surrounded display design. Though the phone was just a concept and not built for commercial sale, it lures a lot of tech freaks and enthusiasts. The smartphone never hit the mass production but it was reported that the Xiaomi might sell a limited quantity of smartphones in the home country. Now once again a patent looking similar to the Mi MIX Alpha has appeared on the web hinting towards a sooner reveal. We don’t know whether it’s a concept phone or commercial, let’s find out more. 

Xiaomi Concept Phone Patent Leak

The new patent from Xiaomi was first reported by LetsGoDigital. As per the report, Xiaomi applied for the patent with The Hague Bulletin, which is a part of WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) back in April this year and it got published on December 18th 2020. The reported documents show 16 sketches of the smartphone including the detailed design. 

The 16 sketches of the phone show a complete 360 degrees wraparound display, but this one didn’t feature a vertical frame on the rear panel to accommodate the rear camera sensors. Instead, the patent images revealed that the smartphone will house a mechanized pop-up camera at the top which accommodates a triple camera setup with Dual LED flash.


Besides, the top housing of the Xiaomi smartphone also includes a power button and a secondary microphone. While the bottom part of the phone sports a speaker grille, primary microphone, 3.5mm audio jack, and a USB Type-C port. 

Back in March, it was reported that the company is working on a successor of the Mi Mix Alpha which was said to be developed under a code name Draco. The smartphone was tipped to be powered by the Snapdragon 865 SoC. The name of the concept phone is still under the wraps, let’s see when Xiaomi is going to unveil this phone.
