Redmi 6 Pro MIUI 10 Stable Update Based on Android 8.1 Oreo Now Rolling Out in India

The wait may finally be over for owners of the Redmi 6 Pro as reports are surfacing that Xiaomi is readying the release of the stable version of MIUI 10.

The lead up to the MIUI 10 software release saw many patiently waiting for the version that would see Android 8.1 Oreo hit their device. The wait may finally be over for owners of the Redmi 6 Pro as reports are surfacing that Xiaomi is readying the release of the stable version of MIUI 10.

MIUI 10 is already out for a number of Xiaomi devices but the OTA is now finally hitting Redmi 6 Pro devices in India with a model number MI805DISI. The software update also beings the latest November security patch.

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro joins the Redmi 5 and 5S, as well as a whole host of other devices including the Redmi 5A, Note 4, and Mi Max 2.

MIUI 10 Key Features

The latest version of Xiaomi’s custom UI comes with several new features such as App Vault – Icon Bar, MIUI Calendar, Hidden Apps, and more. With the new App Vault – Icon Bar feature, users can select their favorite card from the App Vault. The icon bar shows a collection of the icons of all the cards enabled by the user. You’ll also see that the company has added a new “Check train PNR” card in the App vault to get the latest information.

As well as the improved user experience, MIUI 10 also emphasizes user privacy and security. The Hidden Apps feature is one of the features of the latest software that helps improve user privacy. This feature enables the user to place an app within a hidden folder to hide it from prying eyes. The icons and apps in this folder will not be visible on the home screen so it will look as if they are not installed. To access the apps from the hidden folder, the user will require spreading two fingers on any home screen to enter the folder. The updated MIUI Calendar app also brings a new feature that enables the user to share festive greetings with just a tap.

How to install MIUI 10

First, you’ll need to grab the software and download it to your device. The links for the Redmi 6 Pro Beta are below. The links for the stable release are not yet available.

Once you’ve got the software, you can go ahead and either update your device by flashing it using custom recovery software like TWRP or locally using the inbuilt system updater (for global firmware only). If you are using MIUI 7 / MIUI 8/ MIUI 9 stable ROM, please upgrade to MIUI 10 via the fastboot method. If your device is locked, please unlock it before fastboot flashing. You can head over to the MIUI website for instructions on how to unlock your phone bootloader?

  1. Download the MIUI 10 update above.
  2. Transfer it to a folder on your device on your Xiaomi device.
  3. Backup important data and files as everything will be deleted during the upgrade process.
  4. Go to Settings > About phone > System update > tap the 3-dot button in the top right > Choose update package > select the MIUI 10 update file.
  5. The system will now install the software automatically and reboot when finished.

It’s great to see the device being updated and receiving MIUI 10, but it would be even better to see the latest version of Android Pie rolling out to these devices. Unfortunately, Android Oreo is already an outdated version so is difficult to get excited about an old version of software being distributed to devices. However, for those still stuck on Nougat, it will be a welcome arrival.
