Xiaomi had been working on an entry-level Android Go backed smartphone for quite some time. The brand has made the device official in a rather quiet manner through its global Twitter handle. The Xiaomi Redmi Go has made it to the official account but is yet to be listed on Xiaomi’s official website. In the tweet, Xiaomi has revealed the key specifications of the handset. The Android Go-powered device runs Android Oreo (Go Edition) that makes it a budget offering from Xiaomi.

As we mentioned above, Xiaomi has not revealed all the details concerning some of the specs and pricing of the Redmi Go. However, the image accompanying the tweet shows that the phone will come in Blue and Black color variants. Xiaomi is yet to announce the availability and price of this budget phone in India. Our best guess would be that Xiaomi might launch the phone under 6K price bracket in India. The Redmi Go will be positioned below the Redmi 6A. It will rival the likes of Nokia 2.1, Micromax Bharat Go, and others.

Coming to the specs of the Redmi Go, the phone features a 5-inch HD display with 720p resolution. The design of the phone is entirely conventional, which means that it will have a 16:9 aspect ratio. It has capacitive buttons at the bottom while the top of the phone houses the earpiece, selfie camera, and proximity sensor. A 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor powers the smartphone. Although Xiaomi has not revealed the chipset model, some of the previous leaks suggested that it has Snapdragon 427 chipset under the hood. We can expect the phone to pack 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage that should be expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.

The software side of things are handled by Android Oreo (Go Edition). This means that the Redmi Go will come pre-loaded with a host of Lite apps like Google Assistant Go, YouTube Go, Gmail Go, and more. All these apps are compatible with entry-level hardware on phones like the Redmi Go.

As for the optics, Xiaomi has confirmed in the tweet that the phone sports an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP selfie snapper on the front. A 3,000mAh battery backs the device with ‘durable battery life’ as touted by the company. Connectivity-wise, we can expect the phone to feature 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS, and microUSB.
